Why We Love It
For over 80 years, we’ve been making our authentic Scotch Plaid flannel shirts the way we always have: better than everyone else’s. Our exclusive flannel fabric is meticulously woven with longer-staple cotton, which means the individual cotton fibers are about one-quarter inch longer than short-staple fibers, making a huge difference in fabric strength and quality. Then, it's meticulously brushed eight times on each side and given a "touch test" by a master weaver to declare it soft enough.
Fabric & Care
- Made of high-quality Portuguese cotton flannel, an L.L.Bean exclusive.
- Authentic tartans are yarn-dyed for lasting color.
- Each color is carefully matched to the historical tartans in the Scottish registry.
- Machine wash and dry.
- Button-down collar.
- Single patch pocket.
- Shirttail hem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gerterschnitz from Good shirt I have several of these shirts, some almost 20 years old, that I wear mostly during the winter months. They wear well, wash well and fit well. They don't seem to fade much. I recently ordered one of the "slightly fitted" regular shirts and, as others have said, it's pretty much just like a plain regular fit. It may be "slightly" fitted, but it's such a small amount that it certainly makes no noticeable difference in the fit. Overall, it's a good shirt. The price is steep, but I've yet to find a comparable flannel shirt at a better price. I would like to see it made with a little heavier material. The Stewart Gray color is very nice looking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by werdna from Great Flannel, runs HUGE This flannel is great quality, and will get lots of wear this season. I recommend it. I'm knocking off a star because the buttons are fairly low quality, unlike the rest of the shirt, and another star because the shirts run HUGE, which required sizing down. For reference, I am 5'10" 170lbs with a 39" chest. Typically a medium. I bought a small slightly-fitted shirt and it is still loose on me, even for a flannel. I don't think I've bought a small since high school. I would expect that anyone purchasing this shirt will need to have it dialed in by a tailor, even after sizing down.

Rated 1 out of 5 by MarshGuy from Seriously disappointing My mistake: I bought another one, thinking the thin, rough fabric and the pilling that occurs in the wash must have been a fluke. But this one, the Navy plaid pattern, is just as bad. Great pattern. Predictable fit. But shabby fabric. It's not warm, and it looks worn after the first wash. This is not like the Bean flannels I used to buy. Many of those shirts are still favorites after many years of use. For now, I'm buying flannels from another company, which does not disappoint me. A question: these two thin, shabby shirts were made in El Salvador. The flannel shirts of the past were made in places like Malaysia and even Canada. Is sourcing the problem?

Rated 4 out of 5 by Drew from Nice shirt, runs large I wanted to leave a review for others to help decide what size to order. Overall I think its a very nice shirt. Its brightly colored and looks true to the picture on the website. The material feels thick and not cheap. I can't speak to how durable it is because I just ordered it. I ordered a large and I am 6'1", 185 with a slim but athletic build. I think when purchasing you should base what size you get off your chest measurement. I am a 40, but decided on a large based on what others had purchased. However the large was just a bit too baggy and hung too long. The sleeve length was fine so I hope the sleeves on the medium are not too short.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DanielBoone from Buy this shirt! I am 5’ 9”, 175 lbs. and have a 31” waist. I work out. No, this is not my dating info., I’m just illustrating how freakin’ hard it is for me to find clothes that fit me. It’s a dumb problem, but a problem nonetheless. As to these shirts I purchased, look no further. I bought the med. reg, slightly fitted men’s flannel shirt, and I absolutely loved it. Great fit- not baggy, good sleeve length, warm, and of great construction. And the color looks great! Glad I bought three of them. Wash in cold or warm, hang to dry, and you won’t get shrinkage. I can unreservedly recommend these shirts- and yes, they ARE worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SamD123 from Great Flannel Softest flannel around. Fit wise, I'm 6'2"/205lbs with a 33 inch waist and the large fits well. I could probably fit into the medium with no issues if I wanted a more snug fit. I wouldn't say that the shirt is truly a "slim" fit around my waist as the fit is similar to other retailers "regular" fit shirting (think Jcrew). The shoulders/arms/chest fit well and it is not too billowy around the waist for me. The colors are rich and there are no quality issues with the construction. It's nice enough to wear tucked in to the office and works untucked just as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DontGetMadGetPlaid from The men in my life love it I've purchased the flannel in black watch for every man I've dated since 2012 and the high quality of the shirt alongside the mediocre quality of the men I date keeps me comin' back year after year! From what I can see via social media, the shirts have held up great over the years. It's a great deal for a reliable flannel, and knowing that there are a handful of men out there all wearing the same exact flannel is truly priceless. I will continue to buy until someone decides to marry me or LL Bean starts making cat flannels.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jackthereviewer from NOT the 2016 & Before Shirt! This is a wonderful shirt for Southern California or someplace where it does not get very cold, and if you live in a place like that, I HIGHLY recommend it. HOWEVER, if you are used to the old shirts in this style from 2016 or before, realize that the weight of the 2017 shirt (sorry--I do not know how else to express it) is MUCH less than the 2016 and before. I cannot imagine someone in a cold Maine, for example, wearing this outside without a sweater and a jacket over it (which would essentially do away with anyone seeing the nice colors of the shirt.)
