L.L.Bean Hudson Bay Cruiser Axe is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality Cruiser A nicely balanced and moderately weighted axe suitable for packing, tree limbing, de-barking, and the production of kindling, but not recommended for splitting logs--get a maul or much heavier splitting axe. The head is firmly seated on the haft, which is made of quality wood and the grain is properly oriented for strength. As noted by another reviewer, the axe is not 24" in length. Mine measures 22.5" overall. That said, I do really like this axe and it has the bonus of being made in America, and it comes with a sturdy sheath. Thanks L.L. Bean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hudson Bay For the Axe Junkies out there, this is a good axe that arrived dull. For this price point Council Tool really should ship it sharp. My GB hatchet goes down straight through paper with factory edge. My example of the Hudson Bay measures just over 22 inches rather than the stated 24. Head is mounted nicely with nice contrasting wooden wedge. Good sheath. Handle is perfect, just a tad shorter than expected. I also have the Council FSS, which costs half yet arrived sharper. LLB shipped it quick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all-rounder This axe is part of the council velvicut line, and it is a great axe that can take care of splitting, chopping/felling, and other small tasks with ease. I have processed about a cord of wood so far with it and have been very impressed with edge retention and the overall profile of the head. It is slim enough to get deep cuts into a tree for felling, but broad enough to split when you only have one axe around. As a pack or camp axe, it's hard to beat. Once this axe is hung and trimmed, it is right at 23" in length. I have a 6'5" wingspan and it feels comfortable to swing and has plenty of length for my uses. The handle on this axe was absolutely perfect for my hands, with a very comfortable palm swell at the end, good curvature, and with a few coats of linseed oil, extremely robust/without hotspots. All in all, if you're looking for something American made that competes (with ease) to high-end Swedish axes, this is a perfect heirloom axe that is up to the task.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING AXE So impressed with the quality of this axe. It’s a great chopper and splitter. The partnership between LL Bean and Counsil Tool is brilliant. Blade really bites the wood and chips fly. Also the handle has primo grain alignment. Great feel when choking up for fine carving. Don’t hesitate get yourself one today before they are gone.... The handle is raw so just add some BLO

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Camping Perfect The right size axe for making kindling or gathering camp firewood. Bigger than a hatchet but not for felling trees.4th one I've bought for family and friends.
