Rated 5 out of 5 by Mitri69 from Smart design This is the best lumbar pack I've found because of several reasons: 1. It's not too deep, so I can see everything in it without having to dig through it. 2. there is no flap over the top, making it easy to get in and out of. 3. waist belt tucks into its own pocket for when you want to use the shoulder strap. 4. clean, simple design with two main zippered pockets. 5. separate compartment for phone has soft lining. It also has two straps on the bottom, which are good for storing either a small umbrella or a rolled-up rain jacket. It's a perfectly sized bag with a simple, smart layout. Very easy to find things in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by johnp from Waist Pack review I have had one of these LLBean packs (very similar, all the same features just a bit taller and narrower) for over 25 years. Still pretty much like new. It has been all over the US and the world. I can't recall all the things I've carried in it. Never really used it for a fanny pack but still have the straps on it. Sturdy and a favorite to take when i want to bring things. cargo loops on the bottom great to carry a rolled up LLBean anorak or rain jacket or towel. A great grab and go bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Beaner from convenient and roomy This waist pack is so convenient and roomy. I love the fact that it can be worn over the shoulder or around the waist. It fits everything you need for a hike or a day out running errands. It's larger than I thought it would be when I ordered it (which was a good thing for me) and has three zippered compartments to keep things organized.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NavySpy from Versatile and well made Bought this waist pack to carry a camera & associated gear while birding. It's a bit bigger than expected (not a criticism) and plenty roomy for the camera, batteries, etc. plus a few other small items in the padded main compartment. Access to the main compartment is easy with a zipper that opens from either end. This could easily serve as a daypack for short hikes. It's comfortable to wear in the field and can be worn on the waist (of course) as well as over the shoulder. The pack appears to be very well constructed and should last for many years. Highly recommended.

Rated 2 out of 5 by VarsityTraveler from The original style was better I have wanted to update my original 10-year-old forest green LL Bean waist pack for ages. I was excited to see this new one available in neutral black, however I should have looked more closely at the features. While the features appear to be similar to my original, sadly they are inferior in every way. The lovely zippered compartment shown on the front is not full depth; it's half the depth of the pack. The rear zipper is full depth, but it is made with a thick fleece-like material, thereby limiting the holding capacity. The center zippered section is one big open space, without inside zippers. The straps on the bottom of the pack (designed to hold a rolled up jacket) are too thin and dangle when not in use. Most disappointing of all to me is the elimination of the carry handle. My original had a detachable shoulder strap, carry handles as well as the waist belt. I didn't fully appreciate how often I used those carry handles until I found them missing on the new version. I have been using the pack daily - thinking I would get used to the new design. It's been a month and <sigh> I still haven't warmed to the new design.

Rated 3 out of 5 by WisconsinSlim from Not Bean quality The pack itself is okay. It seems sturdily made and it has plenty of access zippers and pockets. The problem is that the system that is meant to hold the pack around your waist doesn't work. You cinch the waist belt tight, put it on, and the buckle system doesn't keep the belt tight- any pressure that would loosen the belt does just that. The shoulder strap works fine, but the waist belt doesn't hold an adjustment. It should be called an over the shoulder pack.
