A Newer and Better Classic
The LL Bean Double L Polo has been a staple of my wardrobe for many years. This year, I wanted to add a new color to my collection. I had some trepidation when I read that the shirt had a makeover. Needlessly. It has the same high quality, durability, fit, and softness as its forerunner. It adds a little more flexibility for comfort and some new, more vibrant colors. In other words, it was more of why I have been buying my Polos at LLBean.
And I’m not the only one who thinks that. Jamie Waters, writing in the Wall Street Journal Journal of August 24, 2024 agrees with me. His Article, “I Wanted a Polo Like Harrison Ford’s” describes his search in both NYC and DC for a classic polo worn by the film star in 1981 while in France. (Yes, it was a fashion shoot.) His comparison test of reasonably priced polos ranked the LL Bean shirt as tied for top honors.
Which is why I give this shirt 5 stars and Jamie gave it the Palme d’Or.

Great Polo shirt, a true classic

Love the pocket, fabric needs improvement
It's hard to find men's polo shirts with a chest pocket, so this has become my husband's go-to shirt. He owns many and wears one every day. The only problem is that the knit fabric is prone to developing holes, as well as tears in the side vents. We have to repair or replace these shirts fairly often.

Good and bad
I have bought many of these short sleeved cotton polo shirts with pocket. I keep buying them because it's a great product. But I wish there were more colors. The current and more recent colors are kind of boring. I would like to see a true red, a light brown or tan, a dark brown or chocolate, or a gold.

Disappointed in the Lighter Fabric
I’ve owned a number of these-specific polos over the years. The navy polo I just purchased in June of 2024 is made of pique that is noticeably lighter than what L.L. Bean used previously.
Please bring back the old, bulletproof cotton pique that Bean used to make these in the past.

Terrific Men's tee with pocket
My husband much prefers summer tee shirts with pockets and we've had a hard time finding them other places. L L Bean has a large selection in colors which look wonderful on him. We even got another in a color he already had, just in case it gets a spot we can't remove. This tends to happen at our house and is no reflection on LLBean. I can't rave enough about these shirts. We gave them to him on Father's Day and he's now enjoying them.
