The original Maine Hunting Shoe was Leon Leonwood Bean's first product, introduced in 1912. Over the years, we've made lots of improvements to these boots, but hunters have told us that they miss the moccasin-like feel that our original boots had in the woods. So we set out to bring it back.

  • Handstitched and checked for quality.
  • Steel shank for superior lateral and arch support.
  • Premium waterproof leather upper.
  • Moccasin-like, flexible sole grips better and lasts longer than ever.
  • Not designed to stay submerged in water.
  • Laces not waterproof.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute but not very grippy Went a size down and they fit great! Definitely waterproof and I love the style of them. Only issue is they're a bit slipperry. If they had more traction they'd be the perfect boot.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too Narrow LL Bean, this is a great product, but unfortunately the size you offer is too narrow for my feet. Please consider making the Maine hunting shoe for women in a wider size. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Attractive, Comfortable, and Truly Waterproof! This boot is attractive, comfortable, and truly waterproof. It has everything I was looking for in a boot. I was skeptical when it came to the sizing recommendations and I almost ordered a size 8, because I typically wear a 7.5 or 8. I am SO glad that I ordered the recommended size 7. My father's daughter, I absolutely LOVE that these boots are MADE IN AMERICA! The quality is impressive. The boots are breaking in very nicely, with none of the discomfort that usually comes with breaking in a new pair of shoes. I hjave a feeling I'll be wearing these well-made, high quality boots for many years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As advertised It was very comfortable right outta the box. I am usually a true women's 8 but got a 7 and they fit perfectly. Have only used these in light rain so far but the construction does seem waterproof. I love the look of these too. Very pleased with my purchase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Boots were nice, website & exchange issues The boots seemed great other than the website suggesting to buy a size smaller than normal which did not turn out to be true in our case. Now a week and a day after they were confirmed received back by LL Bean and I’m still waiting for my refund to appear which I was going to use to re-order in the proper size since they don’t do exchanges for Canadian customers. Now the boots are no longer on sale, missed the Black Friday / Cyber Monday sale while waiting, and used up a 10% off for signing up to there newsletters for nothing. Probably stuck waiting for Boxing Day sale now to get them for the same price if I’m lucky? Not a great online shopping experience I’m afraid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maine hunting boots This is my 5th pair. Worn these for decades, great for working outside. I added arch support insoles for my high arches.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Impossible Fit At first, I purchased a size 7 (what I normally wear) but they were way too big, even with my thickest socks. So I exchanged them for the size 6 I currently have. My big toe touches the tip & there's no room to spread out my toes. I'm done trying to exchange. I'm really sad. This is my 3rd pair ever since Christmas. The first pair was a different model altogether. I couldn't fit my foot in them at all. I just feel like LL Bean may not make any boots that'll fit my feet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Boot! I never believed the hype about these boots and went about life with the attempts from other brands to make a duck boot. These are well made and have the character you'd expect from being made by hand. I usually wear an 11 in most shoes so I followed directions and ordered a size down. Still plenty of room for a thick sock but I'm not punished/slipping around if I wear a regular sock. I was nervous about the tongue of the boot being sewn in, but I really like it and I think it will come in handy in the snow. Excited to see how these wear over the years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and Waterproof These boots are great! I ordered a size and a half down (normally 7.5, ordered 6) to wear them over light socks, like the size guide said, and they fit perfectly. They took a little breaking in, but then they became super comfortable. They're plenty warm when it gets chilly (granted, it doesn't get very cold where I live), and they're not too hot when it's warm out. Most of all, though, they're completely waterproof. I've been able to wade through ankle deep puddles and not get my feet wet. The note in the box said Patty made my pair. Thanks, Patty!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice boot This is a great quality boot. It is comfortable and keeps my feet dry. I'm an 11, and I followed the recommendation to size down. They fit perfect, with a bit extra room for thicker socks. My only complaint is that because the tongue is attached to the boot, I have to loosen the laces quite a bit to get the boot off my foot and it takes a minute or two. However, this design aspect is what keeps my feet dry. Is good in the rain or snow, but will probably need to wear thick socks for warmth in the winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite boots These are truly my favorite boots. They are super comfortable and just get better the more I wear them. I wear them running around town, walking, hiking, day trips when its wet and camping. Love them. I did size down from my normal size as recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE MY BEAN BOOTS I had this style as a college student... have tried other bean boot styles but nothing compares to these! I did size down based on their recommendation and glad I did otherwise the boot would have been too big.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They don't make 'em like they used to... I feel like L.L. Bean used to make products that would last a lifetime, now they last a couple seasons. I've had my boots for a couple years, but didn't wear them much. In all fairness, I live in NYC and I know walking on pavement isn't good for boots, but I'm sad that they just split in half. These boots aren't cheap, so I was hoping to get at least another winter out of them. They were pretty comfortable while they lasted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful!! I finally got a pair of Bean Boots!! they are incredible, the quality is exceptional. I read all the reviews and followed everyone's suggestions for size. I wear a 7 1/2, sometimes an 8 depending on shoe. I didn't always want to wear heavy socks so I went with a size 6. perfect! very comfortable. Very highly recommend these boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect right out of the box I tested the heck out of these boots right out of the box. Took them on a hike which was partly through a shallow part of a creek, not only were they definitely waterproof, but the leather doesn't look even remotely worse for the wear afterwards. They also required ZERO breaking in which is non-negotiable to me with new boots. I couldn't find something wrong with these boots if I tried.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dry at Last Ordered these boots for my daughter who lives in Boston and all the weather that entails. These boots are the only ones that have ever kept her feet dry and believe me, she/we have purchased many a pair. Finally practicality over fashion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fit as Described I was very nervous about choosing the fit but following the directions online for the Maine Hunting Shoe led me to the perfect fit first time-- I am a 9-1/2 to 10 in US sizes and I ordered the size 10. I feel the 10" version was the best fit for my 5'8" frame (and probably women taller than me!) for balance. I chose the unlined version, and for Southern winters I wouldn't have needed anything warmer. I wore them in the snow and they were excellent--warmth, grip, overall fit with both thin cotton socks or thick wool socks. I look forward to trying them in colder weather travels since they were more than warm enough at 30*F. I love these boots and would 100% recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These Are An Extremely Versatile Boot I bought these boots several years ago when I was in college because of the excessive rain where I lived. They were so comfortable and versatile they quickly became my go to footwear for any outdoor activity. They've held up beautifully over the last 5 years whether in rain or snow, while camping, hiking, hunting or working on the farm. I've taken them with me as I've travelled from the south to the northeast to the midwest and they've stood up to every challenge. I normally wear a 7 or 7.5 and I opted for a size 6. They fit very well with thick wool socks and thinner socks too. They are fantastic quality and still look and feel very comfortable after all these years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly What I Needed I'll start off by saying that everyone else is right: order a size down. I'm a size 8 and ordered an 8, and I regret not getting a 7. At the time, I figured I'd order down for my next pair when these wore out, but I'm not sure they ever will at this rate. I'm going on three winters of heavy wear and they are still in beautiful condition. They never hurt my feet or leak. With a pair of wool socks (I like the 12" men's ragg wool socks), my feet are always warm enough. I didn't know anything about winter boots when I ordered them, but I absolutely love getting to pull them out of my closet each year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent boot for the woods I had a Hunting Shoe dozens of years ago and it was time for a new pair. As the sole had worn out on one side only, I can only assume it was my stance. I have 3 ruptured discs and it has progressed to scoliosis. I now have learned to walk with a straight foot, no leaning. These boots were made from supple leather and tanned and colored magnificently. Can only assume they will have many years of life in them. I will use these to walk the woods in various terrains so I use trekking poles also. Many kudos to all who worked with these boots. I was so impressed that I bought the totally lined ones also but in one size up as the lining is a good thickness. Not all of my experiences with Bean have been glorious so I thought it best to give accolades when due. Many thanks Bean!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from True 7 1/2 regular wears size 6 These are my first bean boots ever and as I wasn't going to get the version of this boot that has the built in thinsulate, I figured I would go a full size and a half down based off of so many reviews. The boots arrived quickly, and they fit perfectly with still plenty of room in the toe box because my toes still didn't reach the end of the boot. I can definitely wear a thicker sock if I wanted to. They look and feel great. People mention that it's hard to get your foot in and out of the boot because the way the tongue is built - just undo the laces and you should have no trouble. common sense people.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pros & Cons Pros: a rain and snow boot in one. dispose of uncomfortable rain boots and clunky snow boots, high-quality leather, attractive and this pair is less flashy than the classic bean boot Cons: heel feels loose (probably to allow room for thick socks), takes a long time to put on and take off, rubber feels like it will wear away quickly

Rated 5 out of 5 by from comfy! These are really comfortable, cute boots. These are the second pair that I've owned of these boots and I'm really happy with the quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazingly comfortable I went for my walk the first day I got them and fell in love with them. They needed no breaking in, no extra socks to keep me warm and felt wonderful. I truly recommend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits and feels like home I have had a pair of these boots since I knew how to lace up my shoes by myself. They take a LONG time to wear out. Like, forever. This pair does not disappoint - the fit is perfect, the craftsmanship is excellent, and the boots are warm and very comfortable for long winter walks. Best of all, Bean's tells you who made them, so you can thank the person individually. This means a great deal, perhaps more than ever since many products we use come from elsewhere. Fantastic quality and a real lifetime investment in durable, sturdy footwear. You really can't go wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boots! I just purchased these and absolutely love them. The are very comfy and fit well. I wear a 9.5-10 typically, but ordered the size 9. They fit great even with thicker wool socks on. They are waterproof and great for hiking in muddy areas. At first, the tongue fits really snugly and looks a little weird, but I just lace my boots up tight and this has been fixed. They work well and look great - would recommend 100%.
