The shoe looked good and fit well, BUT the sole was soft and not firm so that if I were not moving forward, if I were trying to stand still, my weight would shift backwards and I would start falling over --backwards. I had to walk with a cane to keep myself on level.

I wanted to love these. They were so soft and cushy when I first put them on. But I've worn them for a month now and they're increasingly more uncomfortable every time I put them on. My feet hurt and my knees hurt, and I think they're going in the trash.

Great support, runs small in toe area
Bought 3 months ago, for stability & arch support, after foot surgery.Beautiful color. I really like this shoe & wear it on errands and in garden. 2 problems tho. One is lack of toe room.The slimmer design pushes in on my toes(I bought sz11 for my sz 10 1/2 feet). And grass catches in the tip of my shoe! Started immediately on 1 shoe,and the rubber 'bumper ' pad is coming off! It's now begun on other shoe too!

Passed the test!
I put these shoes to the test today on a very wet and muddy trail up a mountain in the Adirondacks. It has been raining a lot in the past week and the trail was filled with mud and slippery places. They gripped extremely well on wet rocks, narrow wood stairs and the metal grate stairs of a 60 foot fire tower. They also felt wonderfully comfortable and they look good.

Great for gravel
Fit is a little snug in toes and loose in heal (not unusual for me). The thick soles are wonderful on my gravel road, and the firm arch support is the best I have purchased in 30 years.

A quality L.L.Bean product
I purchased these shoes for my morning walks around our little town. I have gone through numerous pairs of shoes through the years, and the soles wear out on the asphalt. These hikers are wonderful! The weight is heavier than a "walking shoe", but once I start walking they are quite comfortable with good traction. Very satisfied.

Didn't Measure Up
I am quite disappointed. I have had 4 pairs of LLBean shoes/boots over the years with no problems or question of quality. The footbed was all wrong. Sadly, this pair does not measure up to previous LLBean standards. They are going back.
