Metal grommet fell out after one hike
I was really impressed with the fit of the boot, didn’t have to break it in, traction was good. However, one of the metal grommets pulled out! I don’t know how or when. Now I can’t lace the boots up properly and this is after one hike.

Best hiking boot EVER!! Stayed with my true to size and it is so comfortable..No breaking in period just put them on and starting going!!! Have worn them pretty much every day to take my dog for a walk.My feet have not gotten cold, even in the deep snow(and that is saying something because no matter what I do, my feet usually always are cold!!! highly recommend

Eyelet popped out on the third day
I really did not have a chance to find out more about the boot and how it's going to feel after long wearing hours. However, I like the feel. The right side of the right boot upper eyelet popped out on the third day of wearing. I wonder if it is a defect in a few pairs for the style or a general defect in the entire Alpine Hiking boot/this style.

I had tried on several different hiking boots in different sizes and the 7 1/2 Alpine seems to be the best fit with socks and I have narrow feet. Recently moved to the Hudson Valley and trails are not paved so my old sneakers did not work and had to invest in Hiking Boots.

Comfortable, supportive, warm, waterproof
True to my size is a bit wide. This boot is amazingly comfortable. As soon as I put them on I loved them. I wore them in the snow the next day and my feet stayed dry and warm and the traction is great! I'm an 11 and many shoes and boots I've tried in my size over the last few years have all been snug until broken in but these felt perfect right off the bat. I also love that they came with a backup, contrasting pair of laces. They arrived with red laces but the second pair are brown. Because of my sizing I might venture to say these run large. They are perfect with a thick boot sock. Ideal for winter weather but hopefully appropriate in warmer seasons with a lighter weight socks. I am very happy with this purchase. They are cute with leggings or boot cut pants.

Flying Boot Hooks! Beware!
I most certainly would have given these boots 5 stars for comfort and fit but there is some problem with the boot lace hooks. I bought my first pair in store and on the second day one hook flew off as I was lacing them up. I returned them and immediately ordered my second pair online as they did not have my size in either of the local stores. I was very excited to receive my second pair but as I laced them up, once again a hook went flying.
I live outside of the US and bought both pairs while visiting family there. I will not have a chance to exchange the second defective pair as I need them for a hiking trip. Instead, I will take them to a shoe repair shop and hope for better results.
Once, a fluke, but twice? What is going on in the area of production? I am extremely surprised as L.L. Bean has always meant top quality in boots and clothing.
As far as fit goes, these are great. I have a thin foot and many boots are too roomy. I wore both pairs for one day each and in each case, they felt like comfortable walking sneakers, no break-in necessary. I wear a woman's size 9 and they were true to size. I like a thin wool sock and is what I will be wearing.

Nice boots but poor quality
When I got these boots, I was quite pleased with them. They were comfortable as I was breaking them in wearing them around my house, getting ready for a hiking vacation. Imagine my disappointment when, before I actually went on a hike, I picked them up and the top right eyelet hook fell out of the left boot. Since I was leaving for my hiking vacation before I would be able to get a replacement pair of boots, I turned to Gorilla super glue to do a repair. That repair has held but while on day 3 of my hiking vacation, the right boot had two eyelet hooks fall out - top left and middle right. So 3 eyelet hooks fell out before I had even worn the boots 10 times. They may be comfortable but when you can't even lace them up, they aren't of much use.

Highly recommended!
This is my first pair of hiking boots, and I’m super happy with them so far. I wanted boots that are lightweight and prevent me from accidentally twisting my ankle or rolling my foot when I’m hiking. These are very comfortable from the very first wear - no need to break them in - and if you tie the laces tight on the top 3 hooks, they support your ankles really well. I also love the fun purple color - hiking boots are usually so utilitarian in appearance, but these have some style to them. I definitely recommend them! I am generally a 9 to 9.5, and the 9.5 fit me perfectly with thick socks on.

No Problems!
Did not have a chance to properly break this in before a rather challenging four-day hike in Peru. And guess what? It didn't matter. NO foot problems, no blisters, as waterproof as I needed (I didn't walk through any streams or anything but it did rain)--and just a good-looking boot. I actually felt it rehabbed my ankle which is inclined to roll, with it's good stability. I wore awesome, thick wool socks (also from LLBean) which I'm sure helped to prevent blisters. Sizing was true. Very pleased with this purchase!

An extremely tight fit even when ordering 1/2 size up. You really can't go a full size up because the shoe would be too long. Sending them back. I guess I should state as well that I do not have a wide foot. They look very nice however but that does me no good, LOL
