Rated 5 out of 5 by from 850 Down coat The coat is very light and warm. There are many coats similar to it in the marketplace. I purchased this one because of ll bean’s reputation and the quality of other bean items purchased

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Coat Some Improvements necessary - greatness Returned Jacket. Elastic at wrists is too loose. Air comes up the sleeves even with multiple layers underneath. The looseness causes the sleeves to slide down over the top half of my hands. Coat needs a zipper that opens from top AND bottom. Other than these two issues this is a GREAT coat. Light weight but very warm, Packable and it works nicely with LL Bean's raincoat. Fix the issues in mentioned and I would purchase this coat again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too much embroidery - tall xxl color black I got the tall xxl black 850. They went a little crazy with company embroidery logos. Normally Nice expensive jackets have one (1) or no overbearing visible logo this jacket has four (4) bright white logos - front, back?, side of sleeve?, and inside kind of like a NASCAR. The amount of logos really took a lot away from the aesthetic of this jacket. And that sucks because the jacket fits great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultralight Jacket is plenty warm without bulk. My second Ultralight Down Jacket and continue to be impressed by the quality, comfort and warmth. Much warmer and substantial than your Down Sweater, which was a disappointment. For the small price difference, the Jacket is a much better value. The sizing (I'm 5'7" and 155 lbs) is ideal, fitting well over just shirt but roomy enough to accomodate a heavy sweater. But not too bulky like other puffy down jackets, so it fits easily under a rain shell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked out perfectly I bought this last year for my husband at the start of the ski season, it has been a perfect midlayer for him. We purchased a large tall, he is 6'1", 185 pounds and it fits perfectly. He also wears it for hiking, he's visible especially in hunting season. One suggestion for LLBean: Please make the neck lining of jacket collars -- especially down jackets -- a dark color. After three run-ins with skin cancer, my husband loads up on sun screen, it makes a permanent stain on the bright orange collar lining. In fact, his LLBean bicycle jerseys have the same problem, it would be a lot easier to keep clothes looking clean if they didn't have sunscreen stains on the neck linings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lightweight Jacket This is a great jacket. I needed something warm but that I could easily put in my flight carry on. This was perfect. It stuffs into one of the pockets making for a very small package. It is lightweight, warm (It’s comfortable in the 20 degree range) and looks great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from THIS COAT IS JUNK, NOT WARM IN THE LEAST This is advertised as a warmer jacket great for all sorts of outdoor activities in the winter. It's junk barely warmer than a windbreaker. This is deceptive advertising steer clear of this jacket (probably true for all LL Bean products).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Downgrade from previous similar 850 jacket I bought this same model jacket about 10 years ago and loved it. The current version is missing some of the very nice features of the earlier: I really miss the fleece lined pockets and collar-much more comfortable and warming than the current nylon. Also it seems to have less down filling than the previous 850 jacket, so will probably be less warm. Only plus is the newer colors.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice jacket, tight armpits I liked the jacket a lot but returned it because, to me, the arm holes are small, making for an overly snug fit up high under the armpits. I ordered a Medium and I'm 5'11" / 173 lbs. The jacket otherwise fit great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Europe 2024 trip I bought this jacket for a trip to Europe this October 2024. I used it for two weeks solid. I bought because it could fold into the left pocket and easily be put into my backpack. This was a terrific purchase for me. The jacket packed away as should, kept me warm, and when it was not cold enough it did not over heat me. The only thing is I wish the upper zipper pocket would have been on the inside rather than outside. I think that would be more useful in protecting a wallet, phone, or in our case a passport. I have an LLBean vest and it has the inside pocket. I recommend this jacket for purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A little cheaper than before but still quite good This very handy jacket has unfortunately been somewhat downgraded from the version of several years ago: It no longer has the soft material around the neck and collar - too bad as it was a nice feature - now your skin as against nylon. The stowing pocket is now one uses the left pocket as a stowing envelope - it's "OK" but not nearly as sweet as the original stow-pocket with zipper. These seem like cost-cutting decisions - dog forbid the price might go up a little over the years in order to keep the quality up. Apparently, it's better to let the build quality slowly suffer over the years in order to never have a price rise. Other than these quibbles, it seems much like the older model and does a good job of stopping wind and holding heat in. Wish the outside nylon material were just a touch tougher/heavier/robust and I wish it had 15% more down stuffing. With that said I know of no other jacket which is this warm and which can be stuffed into a small pillow for packing or for use as a sleeping/napping pillow and which also comes in a medium/tall size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replaced by prior 850 This replaced by 3 year old 850. Would you replace a jacket if you didn’t love it. After 3 years, the first one lost more than half of its down. But it is so light, packable and warm that I just needed to get a new one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not as good as before I have an older version of the 850 which is a great jacket so I ordered a new one. I miss the fleece lined outer pockets and the fleece collar and the inside zippered pocket. I ordered the same size as before, the jacket by design is more fitted and the arm holes are tighter. It is still my go to jacket even though I am not able to layer. I live in the NW where there are lots of great brands to compare and I think the LL Bean 850 down is the best all around jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better Than The Others I have jackets of this type from different companies. Even at a discount from LL Bean this jacket was still more expensive than the others I've purchased but it has a higher down rating and just seems to fit better. I also purchased the hooded version and it is the only one that has an insulated hood with a drawcord. Since I purchased these jackets in warmer weather, I have not had an opportunity to test them in winter conditions. I'm looking forward to it.
