Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hiking poles/lightweight and shock absorbers. I bought these hiking poles as a gift for my son. We are going on a hike soon so he can test them on some rocky terrain. I unpackaged them and they appear to be of excellent quality. I will buy a pair for myself after we come back from our hike.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy & Sturdy These replace a much older set of sticks. Needed something new for a trip which required much hiking in random places in Scotland & Norway. Perfect sticks for me! So much easier to adjust compared to my older set. Sturdy & lightweight compared to some others I checked out from fellow passengers. I am so happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good I bought these to use on paved trails and sidewalks to take some weight off my painful knees when walking. I have only had them a month but like them. I am 6' 8" and I don't have them completely extended so they seem plenty long for nearly anyone. I debated a while between these and another pair without shock absorption. I don't see any downside to the shock absorbers on these poles. They only compress about an inch -- I was a little worried they would be very soft and compress much more but not so. I bought the rubber tips to use on pavement and have some other Komperell rubber tips on order from another retailer -- those are rectangular and have what looks like tire treads on the bottom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable I've had 2 sets of LL Bean shock absorbing poles for at least ten years and they are still working fine. Very light, the shock absorbing is a nice feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice! Hubby and I purchased these for snowshoeing in Maine recently and they were light to carry, had adjustable straps and the shock absorption was good on packed snow but it was more noticeable when we used the poles for stability while walking an icy trail and they had more contact with hard surfaces. I don't ski and just started snowshoing this year but plan to use them for trail hiking year round.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Update to "Really good shocks, okay grip" I now have an unexpected, but not serious, issue: The shocks freeze up when hiking in several inches of snow. This happens every time, some times in the collapsed position, sometimes in the extended position. However, such snow is generally soft, even at the bottom, and shocks aren't really necessary. After the poles are inside a while, the shocks thaw and are totally functional again. Just so you know!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice feature Haven't had a chance to use them yet, but the shock absorbing feature seems like it will make a difference. I have a different version of these and was glad to have them while hiking in Glacier. We hope to go back to try these out !!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good ..... but not great I recently had one of my long-time friend Leki Super Makalu anti-shock trekking poles stolen. I bought these after reading the mostly positive reviews. I think they're "good", but the tension in the shock absorber is so soft that it hardly has any effect. And, there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust them. The Leki was much stronger and stiffer in the shock absorber, so you could really lean on them and not bottom them out. So, good stick but not good shock absorber, in my opinion and experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really good shocks, okay grip Living in SW Colorado and three hours from Utah canyon country, I easily hike 700 or more miles a year. When I broke one of my really old Leki poles I replaced them with redesigned Leki DSS antishock poles which are awful. Among many other issues, the shock is too short and so stiff it provides no relief at all, and vibrations from hard hiking take forever to dissipate. So new or not I replaced them with Hikelites and am much happier. The long, softer shock absorbers make for really comfortable hiking and they quickly dampen any vibrations. However, the fit and feel of the cork grips are only adequate. I much prefer the slimmer and much better contoured Leki plastic grips. Overall I rate the Hikelite 5-star except for the grips which I rate only 3-star.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bye bye baskets Bought these on a whim as my older poles have been broken. After the first hike I lost one of the baskets (as well as the separately ordered stoppers) . LL bean was great about sending a replacement pair. This is why I keep coming back. To LL bean. They support their products a d their customers

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect These are great hiking poles. The cork handles let you grip even with sweaty palms. The handles are also contoured to better fit your hands, The tip of the pole digs in to give you dependable traction. But what I like best is the anti shock feature on the poles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Just what I needed! I use these poles when out on my daily walk. They are exactly what I wanted: sturdy, supportive, easy to adjust. Of course. they are also the quality one expects from LLBean

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good purchase I purchased these to replace my prior poles. I like these as they are comfortable to use. They have a lot of give with the spring action. They are easy to adjust, ( and I am loving that they are red!) The only complaint I have is that the cork hand grips are too smooth, and are much harder than my prior poles, the grip is not as comfortable. I appreciate a rougher grip vs a super smooth one and a little bit of give in the grip.If I could only swop out the hand grips on my old poles and put them on my new poles I would have the perfect set of treking poles.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from collapsing pole I bought a pair each for my husband and me. My husband tried it out on a gravel and dirt hiking path, and one of the poles suddenly collapsed causing him to fall to the ground. He has an artificial hip. We reported this but it was not resolved. We set the bottom part to stay collapsed and only adjust the upper part, but he now only uses it around the house. I just use one pole at a time as I use it to walk our dog. One of the poles works OK but the other will not tighten so I can adjust the height. It just extends the full length. It seems like something is missing. The one I am using tends to come loose and I have to tighten it every once in awhile. Other than that it does help me walking when my arthritis gives me pain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As advertised At 71, I'm not a serious mountain hiker. My wife and I walk on Vermont's hills, usually on stone, gravel, or dirt paths. These poles provide a dependable sense of balance and security, enough to allow us to move at a good pace. The screws that are used for adjustments are easily turned with a screwdriver and do a good job of securing the telescoping sections of the poles.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smooth and helpful for hiking I love walking sticks when I hike. More stability and it allows me to bring a little upper body into the exercise... These are very smooth and great to use. The height adjustment is very good. Easy to make it tight so it doesn't slip when leaning on it. These are better than the walking sticks that require twisting to keep them secure. The shock absorber at the bottom of the stick is handy and is a nice buffer. The straps are very easy to adjust and make secure around your hand. Love those. All in all good sticks. My only complaint is the cork handles. They feel comfortable to walk with, but they are soft. As I put sticks down I worry they'll be easier to scuff up to on the rocks and trees.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Hiked 15 mountains with these poles. They take an enormous amount of pressure off your knees, provide balance for tricky situations and the anti shock system does help with fatigue. The locks stay in place and have never moved even after a considerable amount of force. The tips have held up considerably well. Highly recommend.
