Not the same quality as it was 20 years ago
Great bookbag but it didn't last one school year before the water bottle pocket ripped and the zipper on the front pocket is caught up to where it won't zip all the way now. Was really hopeful that this would last as long as mine did 25 years ago but that just isn't the case and of course no lifetime warranty amymore either.

Great Backpack
Love LL Bean backpacks! We had one previously for 4 years and are only replacing it because my daughter moved to middle school and needs a larger one. It is very durable and does not look old and beat up. It will be saved for my younger son to use in elementary school. This new bag is a great size. My daughter can fit her laptop case, binder, and lunchbox. She loves the multiple pockets and water bottle holders on the sides.

So good, we bought it twice!
The 1st one we bought lasted 4 years and was used in place of a school locker. The side mesh pockets finally gave away, but decided to do it again. Great pack. Very durable!

Didn’t last two years
We have always loved LL Bean and their gear, but this backpack only lasted 20 months. (In comparison I have some llbean bags almost 15 years old). The bag was only used by an 8 yo girl for less then two school years and the zipper stitching broke, making it very difficult to zipper the pocket. I was disappointed that the store wouldn’t exchange the backpack. I bought it on sale and still paid $58 in 2022. The attraction to llbean has always been them standing by their craftsmanship and the long longevity of their gear, but that’s no longer the case and I will no longer get school bags here.

Best backpack!
I bought this backpack for my son three years ago and it has held up like a champion. He is super rough on all of his stuff and we have had no issues with this backpack. It has multiple places for storage options and has fit all of his water bottles without any issue. Highly recommend this backpack!

Disappointed
I bought a LLBean backpack and lunchbox for my daughter thinking it would last her a few years as I still have mine from high-school and I just celebrated 25th high-school reunion. I still use mine for traveling. However my daughters did NOT hold up to the same LLBean quality I'm use to. Her buckles on the bag broke, areas are cracked and fraying. The inside of the lunchbox is all cracked..I'm just so disappointed!

Top loop easily frays
Love the size and overall durability of this backpack. However, my daughter has been using it for summer camp to hold extra clothes and shoes and the loop at the top has already started to fray after 2 months of use.

Smaller in the older Versions
I have had 3 of these backpacks and inflation is taking is toll here. It is smaller than my previous bags I have owned, but still high in price. The big thing about the Deluxe I like is the 2 water bottle pockets and the 2 large pockets could hold so much. That is not the case with this new bag. Its so small compared to the others I've owned. LL Bean is compromising with not keeping the dimensions the same as the prior bags made.

Not impressed with quality of LLBean lately
This is the 2nd LL bean backpack I’ve had to buy in the last few years because of poor quality. Zipper got stuck after only 5 months of use. Last one also had issues: water bottle netting broke easily and also zipper issues- I was hoping it was a fluke so I bought another. Looks like this is an issue for several others as well. Do not recommend purchasing for the money. Where did the quality go?!

I bought 2 of these for my boys who were 4 and. 2 at the time, they are bigger kids so I did want something they could grow into. Now almost 10 and 8 and these bags are still going strong. Color has held up, minimal fading we have the blue camo and army green camp (no longer available). Zippers have held up and my boys are rough not to mention all of their sports gear got into the mix as well. These bags are roomy fits lots of things. Although the bags were used for school We traveled to Europe with they and fit all of their personal items. Only purchasing new ones for a change of pace.

Poor stitching/design water bottle pockets
We bought this back pack for 3rd grade with hopes of using it for 2-3 years. The overall backpack is a great size and quality; however the water bottle pockets started coming apart within 3 months. First it was on one side and then the second side. The top band is fine, but the way it is attached to the mesh material is not a good design. It unraveled on both sides where it is barely attached to the top band. I am now looking for a back pack for two more elementary kids and I know to avoid the mesh water bottle design.

Stellar backpack! Bought in 3rd grade.
Just completed 4th grade with this backpack and after two years of continuous use. It has held up fantastic. We are Canadains and it has been as far north as the Arctic and as far south as Texas! We have taken it on float planes, jets, school busses, side by sides, boats, and more! It's worked as a school back, camping back pack, holiday carry on, weekend bag and more!
Pros:
Bag wipes clean easily.
Does not stain.
Plenty of room for daily school and field trips.
Love the multiple zippers to organize the bag a bit. The small front pouch has what he wants to bring for the bus ride to entertain himself. Bigger front pich is his lunch kit. Back puch is school folder and communication folder plus any winter gear that is needed for the days adventures.
The reflectors on it are AMAZING safety feature.
The chest strap is perfect to help keep it in place when the load is a bit heavier or to hold in place over bulky snowsuits.
Cons
The main zipper gets stuck some times.
Wishes:
Wish there was straps to attach a lunch kit on the outside.
Wish there was a safety whistle built into the straps for kids to blow.
Would love to see a built in wet bag spot for swim suits, wet shoes, anything like that.
Would love for the back of the bag to breathe a bit easier my son complains in the warmer weather his back gets hot.
Thanks for making amazing backpacks! We will be using this one for all of grade 5 and all of grade 6. He can choose a more mature pattern for junior high.
