Color fading
I love the shorts, they are comfortable and rugged. The only thing is to be careful with dark colors as they fade after a few washes. Unfortunately, I had to return the Asphalt.

Fit is not the best
There is something about the fit that I don't like. Wish there was a drawstring as well.

Built Tough!
I picked up a pair of these Allagash shorts last year and they are built tough…! Pretty heavy rip stop type 100% cotton, strong stitching, good fit with a gusseted crotch for ease of movement… They have plenty of pockets, including a zippered pocket for your keys or wallet… If you’re looking for a tough, strong and comfortable pair of shorts for hiking, fishing or casual use, look no further…

Like A Suit of Armor
These shorts are tough! Too tough! The fabric doesn't like to bend, making it difficult to move. I have no doubt they are durable, unfortunately, they are too uncomfortable to be worn frequently.

Always Dependable L.L. Bean
Been buying from Bean since college -- in the mid-Cretaceous age. Reason's simple: there's never been a question about quality, or Bean's commitment to stand behind what it sells. As with previous items this is accurately described in the catalog and exactly what I've come to expect -- which is many years of use.

New men's shorts.
Husband needed new shorts and these looked good. I am happy to report he likes them very much. Wish there was a way to make them 4 and 3/4 stars because they are close to 5. fit to size, good material and nice length.

Meh…
I switched to these shorts from another model that were too blousey for me. They only have an 8 inch inseam, so they are shorter than most traditional “Bermuda” shorts. Can’t say I like them much. They remind me of some nice men’s slacks that were cut down into shorts. They don’t wrinkle and have a pleated look. Legs are still a little blousey, and I don’t have small legs.

Preferred the previous version
I have 5 pairs of these. Three are older ones with 8 pockets, extra paneling on the pockets and buttons closures. The older ones are softer and have more of a matte finish to them. The newer ones are stiffer, have flatter pockets (that can store less things) and have only 7 pockets in total. The one good thing I'll say about new vs old is that the new ones have snap closures which are a little easier to work with. Overall, I prefer the older ones, softer, more pockets, bigger pockets.

Well made shorts.
good looking and well made. Shorts are a little long and loose fitting . Some more stretch in the material would be good.

Runs small
Had to knock off a star due to size running small. But, once exchanged for a better fit, they're great!

Solid, but maybe not right for me.
Generally pleased with these for everyday wear. Good mid-weight material, slightly larger leg opening, sits somewhat lower on the waist. At 6'2"+ and narrow hips/butt these (and other shorts) drift down when pockets are full (even with proper belt). Xtra zippered side pocket is a good idea, but hard to access. Would probably buy again, but might prefer lighter weight, longer rise solution.

The Worst ever
The seam of the gusseted crotch comes to a double-thickness rough point in the inner thigh. After a few wearings, this caused painful, itching sores on both legs. Very disappointed.

Don't like the buttons; snaps/Velcro would be best
Fit/finish well done, material seems like it will wear well. The reason for four instead of five stars is the use of buttons at the waist and on the pockets. They barely fit through the buttonholes, and are very difficult and frustrating for me to use. As with the Allagash cargo shorts I bought at the same time, I finally got out a razor blade and cut through about 1/4-inch of the stitching that closed down too much of the buttonholes and that seems to have solved the problem, though there may be some fraying that develops where I did my surgery. I’d much prefer a snap at the waist and Velcro for the cargo pockets. Also, it seems to me that having buttons on the rear pockets is superfluous; I’ve worn dress pants with that feature for decades and never once buttoned a pocket to keep my wallet contained – these aren’t dress slacks, and the lack of a button on my blue-jeans rear pockets has never been an issue.

Over the past decade or so I have been gradually replacing my entire wardrobe with L.L. Bean products for their durability, style and comfort. This latest acquisition did not disappoint.
