Not targeted at me, but I'll take them
Why, oh, why does L.L. Bean not offer basic chinos like this for women? They've only got pants with elastic waistbands or else the awful Comfort Stretch pants that don't even look like cotton twill and which come out of the wash as a wrinkled mess. I've been shopping around trying to replace some old slim-fit Lees, and so far, these are the best I've found. The fabric has more stretch than most -- seriously, in 2025, how has everyone not figured out how to make slim-fit pants that let you bend your knees? Anyway, the fabric is also soft and matte instead of the shiny, cheap-looking, wrinkle-free stuff. It has some tendency to collect lint. (But I've seen worse.) With a quick toss in the dryer before hanging, ironing is optional. It would be nice if they were a touch lighter weight for 90 degree+ summer days.
I kept a 30 in navy, 29 inseam for ankle-length. 30 fits about like a women's 8. I preferred athletic over the slim fit for the extra hip/thigh room, but the differences are subtle. The photo on the model is pretty accurate for the leg fit.
Navy is medium dark (about as shown or maybe slightly lighter) and on the green side of blue rather than the purple side.
The khaki color is darker and cooler than shown on the website, so those went back. I would probably buy more if they came in gray, stone, or muted mid blue.
To sum up, if you're a guy, you've got other options, but these are a good one. The fact that they do work as unisex is because the styling is perfectly classic and preppy. You wear them to work, but they don't look like you bought them only for work. Your office persona, well, that's not an act; you're mature, responsible, and put-together all the time, honest.
If you're not a guy, the options for classic chinos are pretty dire, and these are worth a look. But really I wish Bean would take in the waist, add more neutral colors, and stick them in the women's section, too.

Color is wrong
We bought these pants in the color Light Hickory. The actual color is nothing like the color shown on the website. I thought we were getting something akin to "nanny red", but these are almost burgundy. We'll keep them because we like this style but disappointed that we didn't get the color we were expecting.

A great go-to
I purchased Lakewashed chinos when they were first offered and I wear them often - especially when a crease isn't called for. Comfortable and good-looking, they go well with boat shoes and a navy blazer OR a Hawaiian shirt and sneakers.

Upon opening package, the color is completely different and when you first put on, you find that the pants legs are not tapered yet, bulky or baggy. These pants are great to fit over some other garment, longer than advertised length, and larger waist than expected.
