New favorite jacket
The lightweight pakaway wasn't warm enough, but this jacket is perfectly warm and cozy, with more pockets then I know what to do with.

Lightweight jacket
I was hoping this could replace my last llbean jacket because of course no manufacturer can just keep making the same items for long periods of time, so I have to spend hours researching a replacement.
This jacket is light, which could be a good thing, but it isn't anywhere near as warm as my last jacket.
As others have said, the hood is a weird size, maybe useful if you are wearing a ski helmet, but my helmet is plenty warm on its own and I'd guess that the vents in the helmet wouldn't be much use with this hood so I can't imagine ever using the hood (it falls down over my eyes when I'm driving).
I wish lllean published a temperature guide like some manufacturers do so I could compare jackets to find one that is good for cold new england winters.
I couldn't make the armpit zippers work consistently - they like to zip up but not down.
I will be returning this.

Zipper didn’t last 3 months!
I thought this coat would be perfect for my son. It was perfect until the zipper came apart two weeks ago. I’m going to try another coat with the hope that this defective zipper was a fluke.
Possible updates to come.

A good choice.
As with so many Bean products, it's light weight but quite warm.

Great gift for a grandson just learning to ski.
This jacket is warm and totally waterproof. Great for the colder temps and warm when you are in the outdoors for a long time.

Like everything except the zipper mechanism.
The zipper is cheap and weak. I have to look carefully at the zipper and gently wiggle the zipper every time I put on the jacket and attempt to zip up the front. It usually starts "stuck" and then eventually with the jiggling falls into alignment. This shouldn't be.. I've been zipping jackets for 50+ years. My last LL Bean jacket needed replacing because the zipper gave out after 3-4 years. So I'm trying to be very gentle so that the zipper lasts more than 3-4 years. Saving a few bucks on a low cost zipper isn't worth the hit to LL Bean's reputation. Other brands I own don't have the same issue. If this zipper gives out in less than 3 years it will be the last Bean jacket I buy.

Thrilled that I got an older model! Saved money!
I saved $100 by finding an older model of this jacket at the local LLBean. It is warm with just a mock neck on, no other layers. Plus, I got the color I preferred, like a blue on black that I didn't think was available. It matches my jeep, 'nuf said! So many pockets, I haven't figured out where to put my keys, on a permanent basis, so that I can find them easily. At 22* today, I am completely comfortable. This was a great purchase for around the town, as I haven't skied in years. I leave the zipper up half-way from the bottom, so the double zipper is both convenient and necessary and appreciated! Darn good winter coat!
