Rated 2 out of 5 by seabright from Very faded, fabrication lacking Oh dear. What happened? Purchased this as a replacement for the fabulous LL Bean pea coat i bought a few years ago. I got the navy and was extremely disappointed at how very faded the color was. It looked like the fabric was old, or had been left out in the sun for a year. The fabric, too, was sort of spongey, wasn't dense the way a pea coat should be, and felt more like a poly blend than wool. I expect small details to change over the years (lapel shape, pocket placement, lapping seams), and that type of thing doesn't really bother me, but this was different. It was the fabric itself that seemed inferior. Shed my disappointed tears, and returned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gerbils5 from Super coat! I love the pea coat design. Suits me. I bought the L.L. Bean pea coat last year in black and this year in pacific blue (which I thought would be too bright - it isn't). These coats are a bit pricey at $199, but well worth it. And yes, I realize some people would not consider $199 for a coat too pricey. The wool itself is of a quality I have not seen in a nice coat for 40 yrs. The thinsulate insulation all through makes them very warm. Can't say enough good about these coats! Fit true to size with room for a sweater. Are comfortable. Have regular and petite sizes. Petite, which I need, is not always available in coats. Keep making these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by AKLivin from Exactly What I Wanted I've been wanting a one of these for a while. I tried on several different ones from other stores, but there wasn't enough room for the girls. I took a chance on ordering this and got the 3X after reading the other comments. I actually could have gotten away with the 2X if I didn't wear any thick sweaters underneath. I also LOVE that it's purple and NOT black. It's so hard to find coats in the larger sizes in anything other than black. I wore it out last night in 34 degree weather with the wind blowing and it was very warm. My only wish is that it had a belt. It is very roomy in the waist and a belt would fix that right up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by KSmith792 from Great coat! I must say, I LOVE this coat! I had originally ordered this in a size that was too big, so I called L.L. Bean and did a "QuickExchange" on Friday. They told me it would be here by Tuesday, and it actually ended up getting here a day earlier than expected. The correct size ordered fits absolutely perfectly, and the material is wonderful. The wrapping was fantastic because they wrapped each button individually. I am very pleased with this product, and I look forward to using it for this winter and many more winters to come! I also look forward to ordering more products from L.L. Bean. I already made quite a long wishlist! I highly recommend this coat to anyone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by LittleHermit from I Like It! I don't know what happened to all the other reviews that I read before I ordered this coat a week ago. The criticisms about the fit (order larger size, too tight through shoulders, etc.) almost made me change my mind about ordering. But I decided to try and send it back if it didn't fit right. I ordered my regular size (4 Petite) and it fits fine. The sleeves are probably too narrow for a bulky sweater but if it is that cold, I'll wear my LLBean down parka! This coat will fit fine over a long sleeved shirt or cotton turtleneck. (And it does have pockets -- they just have to be opened by removing the basting thread.) I'm happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AtBeans from Superior-really, really I don't write reviews very often but this coat deserves special attention. I received this coat for Christmas in camel, which is the most beautiful color. My usual size is petite 4 and I would say this is true to size. It fits great with room for a chunky sweater if I want. Anyway, this coat is soft, fabulously warm, looks great, and has many quality details like the nautical buttons. I purchased this some time back and returned it because I thought I could find one just as good that costs less. Big mistake. There is nothing better out there ladies. I love, love this timeless coat. Well done, Bean.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Myideas from no pockets I bought this in a 2x recently needing a nice coat for cool but not really cold weather. For this its nice. The sleeves are long for me, but I am short and it happens on most things I buy. What I am very unhappy with are the so-called welt pockets. These are FAKE pockets. There is not room to put my hand in the pocket and not room to store my gloves. It is just a little opening so it looks like real pockets. For the cost, this is not acceptable. I may have to take it to a seamstress and see if they can make them into real pockets! First LLBean coat that has had a problem for me, I have bought several different ones over the years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Thistledebbee from Buttons The review is about the buttons only. I love the coat otherwise I would give the coat a 5 star rating. The coat is very warm when it is single digits outside. With regards to the buttons, I now understand why buttons are sewn on the inside of a coat to reinforce the buttons on the front. This coat is not made that way as the buttons are sewn to the wool only. I popped a button right off the coat when it got caught on the side of my car. The button did not break but it pulled a chunk of wool off the coat. I am in the process of finding buttons for the inside of my coat to reinforce them on the outside as they are all pulling further and further from the wool every time I wear the jacket.
