Rated 5 out of 5 by Colleen from Well worth it. Living in North Dakota the winters can be very windy and cold. With that in mind this jacket will fit the bill. I purchased it early this year (August 2019) knowing jackets like this will be unavailable for my size when winter starts.. Red is the color I ordered and it is a red,not orangey (as one reviewer state). The fit is true. There will be room for a light sweater if needed, and my hips are covered with little stress on the zipper. Plenty of pockets, some hidden. I had purchased a similar jacket from LLBean over 20yrs ago its still good and warm but I just wanted a newer jacket. Glad I did. So winter bring it, I'm ready for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BassetHoundWalker from Absolutely The Best! I have owned my Baxter State parka for ten years. No matter what the weather, sub-zero, freezing rain, high winds, I have NEVER felt cold. I don't even need to layer underneath. This jacket totally insulates. The hood with ruff deflects most of the wind off my face. It repels water. I live on the shoreline of Lake Ontario and walk my dog several times a day/night in what can be horrendous winter weather. It has been machine washed. I hang it to dry. The down hasn't shifted either. It was worth the money then and has lasted. It just gets dirty, not worn out. Convenient pockets inside and outside. It is an awesome piece of clothing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by CCsmom from Worked beautifully in Iceland I just returned from a week of hiking and touring in Iceland and wore this coat throughout the trip. Temps in Iceland were in the 20's, 30's and low 40's depending on the day. The winds were very high and there was quite a bit of rain or heavy mist from waterfalls. I trekked up and down glaciers, volcanoes and the like and stayed completely warm and dry throughout the trip. I was only wearing a turtleneck and light fleece jacket underneath the jacket each day. The jacket did shed a bit underneath as every time I took it off, I had to pick little feathers off my fleece jacket. Not too bad a price to pay for keeping totally warm and dry in the sub-Arctic terrain.

Rated 1 out of 5 by NJWinter from Don't Buy I bought this coat years ago and wore it out - I walk my dog 4x a day all winter long - this year it was worn out and time to replace - the new coat is surely lacking LLBean quality that I have come to expect The new version is smaller - I had to get a size up - it is also shorter - which lets the wind in and doesn't cover as well - but the outer fabric is the worst part - so stiff - the hood stands up on its own cause its just so stiff - also the sleeves don't keep me warm - I feel the cold on my arms - like they barely put the down in the arms - so disappointed - I never expected LLBean to change their quallity

Rated 5 out of 5 by anniejn from Best Parka Ever Made! I bought a Baxter State Parka from LL Bean a few years ago and just bought another. (The older parka will last forever, but it's a bit...puffy.) The new Baxter State has a lower loft but is every bit as warm as the older model. This parka is exactly what you want for walking and hiking - long enough to keep your rear end and thighs warm on a freezing winter day. It has a great hood that can be cinched around your face to keep out the wind. I especially like the extra set of pockets - chest high because your hands stay warmer if they're at chest level. I just can't say enough good things about this parka!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ckyme from Excellent Product! While I haven't had an opportunity to wear this coat often yet due to warm temperatures, I have loved it every time I have worn it. I am a fairly small female at 5 ft. tall and 135 pounds, but I thought I would want to purchase the Medium Petite. When I got it, I felt it was just too bulky and exchanged it for a Small Petite. So it does run a bit large, but it states that it is sized to wear over heavier clothing. I purchased the deep purple color hoping it wasn't too overbearing, but it was a great color that goes with black, brown, navy, etc. This coat should definitely help me stay warm during the middle of our Ohio winters!

Rated 5 out of 5 by cjbrewer from Buy this coat. I live in Minnesota and like to think I know a thing or two about the cold. This. Coat. Is. Amazing. Do yourself a favor and buy it. I wore this coat this past weekend where I spent a fair amount of time outdoors. The temperature was a balmy -4 below, before the wind chill. A pair of expedition weight (other brand) long underwear under my jeans and this coat kept me warm. Warm. Tons of pocket space and completely wind proof. Thank you L.L. Bean!!! I would also add, I bought a medium and fits great. I am 5'6" about 170 and generally wear a large. Medium works perfect. If I could give this coat more stars, I would.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ArizonaSkierGrandma from Warm, Many pockets, Colorful This Arizona shopper gets cold easily, but is a big ski fan. After many years, decided I needed to replace my ski jacket. L.L.Bean had exactly what I wanted: A bright, warm jacket that had lots of secure pockets for trail maps, lift passes, cash & keys, cell phone. I loved the color choices. When I ordered the coat, it arrived quickly, but was a bit too snug. I spoke to an LLBean customer service rep, who advised me on which size to choose on my re-order. That size fit me perfectly. Technology has definitely changed over the years. My new coat is lighter than my old one, but warmer in the cold Utah snow of Alta/Brighton/Solitude. Terrific!
