Rated 5 out of 5 by thecedarjournal from Light flexible fly rod I purchased this complete rod and travel case set this Spring to replace a starter rod I had used for several years. This rod felt better in my hands and the energy transfer to the line is incredibly different from my older fly rod. I took this on a fly fishing vacation to Scotland this past week and caught two huge 6-7 pound rainbow trout. The feel of this rod under pressure of a large trout was excellent. I would recommend this fly rod to anyone starting out or is replacing starter equipment. The travel case makes this a perfect fly rod for my busy travel, canoe, kayaking, camping schedules.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bowslinger from Very surprised I own 6 different Bean rods. This was purchased this winter. I first used it June 1st 2019. The rod weight was lighter than I expected. I fished out of my canoe 2.5 hours . I was fishing a remote pond in White Mountain National Forest. I was casting a lot farther than I expected. I didn't care for the line that came with it but it worked ok. I usually up grade the line on all my bean outfits. The reel was ok. The outfit works well for a very well priced rod, reel, and case

Rated 5 out of 5 by JMacSnow from My first rod Spent about a month shopping around for my first rod. Very hard to do without going to the show room. Compared several name brands and prices, watched hours of videos this spring on gearing up for this sport. I am very pleased with this purchase. I won’t be returning it. I am progressing quickly with my casting and have a great feeling about the future with it. I did a very little bit of fly fishing about 30 years ago.

Rated 4 out of 5 by GearGeek from Better review the Nail Knot. Wow. I didn't know there was even such thing anymore as a modern fly line that doesn't have a factory welded loop in the leader end. This seems like a funny place for LL Bean to save a few cents. No loop to loop connection makes changing the leader a pain. Every. Single. Time. Also note: No spare spools available online, or in Freeport.

Rated 5 out of 5 by SpringsCB from Great Starter Rod Kit This is the second one / setup I have purchased recently - as I am getting my 10 and 13 year old's into fly fishing now, and this set up is perfect...and it is very similar to the set up I began with from LL Bean 30 or so years ago!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Humper from Reel seat is poorly designed. I took this rod with me to Cuba to try some Bonefishing and never realized till I got there that the reel seat has no notch (like most rods) to accept the reel plus the reel seat is too high thus even the back screw part hardly holds the reel on. It would never hold that reel if you ever hooked a large fish (trout or Atlantic Salmon). And I agree that they should have had a loop on the flyline. I'll be returning it. The reel and rod seem OK otherwise but the reel seat issue is a deal breaker at this point. Surprised LLBean allowed this product to be sold as is.
