Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pocket Problem My husband loves his two pair of these shorts except for the pocket pleats that like to grab door knobs and table corners. Yesterday my husband almost upended someone's lunch while going between two close tables in a restaurant. The pleat caught the corner of the next table and quickly gave it about a quarter turn. Luckily the food was saved. Last night I spent a couple hours carefully sewing all eight pleats shut with a blind stitch. Two pleats have a small 1/4" tear in the fabric that I could not hide but they don't show too much. Eliminating these pleats would be a big improvement in these shorts. As the wife, I wish the fabric was wrinkle free!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed, Shrinkage I have 3 pair of LL Bean Tropical Weight Cargo Pants (waist 33) that I have had for years. They have been washed numerous times and they still fit and feel comfortable. Last year I purchased 2-pair of these Tropical Weight Cargo Shorts (waist 33) and after just a few washes, they have shrunk and are now too tight in both the waist and the crotch. What gives LL Bean? Are there different locations or templates used for shorts vs. pants? I like the style and colors but I feel mislead. A 33 inch waist attribute should fit and wear equally well across all of your products. Disappointed!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good as usual I usually buy my shorts from LL Bean, as it is convenient to do so, and the quality of the product is always very good. These are good shorts and I expect to get a lot of wear from them, if they reflect my previous purchases. The only downside with these is that the belt loops are a tad short. My belt (which is used as a gun belt for my pistol) is 1 1/2 " wide. The shorts come in about 1/4 " less. I can still cram the belt into the loops and I expect they will stretch a bit, but had not had that problem with Bean shorts until now. Just a minor irritation. LL Bean clothing is pricier than other brands, but worth the extra, I feel, due to the quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Six Continent Shorts I have been purchasing these for over twenty years. They (and the long pants version) are ideal for travel almost anywhere. The added pockets keep everything close at hand, while the comfort is exceptional. In the next few months we will be in Bangkok, Athens, Dubrovnik, and Bordeaux wearing these extraordinary shorts. I have them in four different colors and, I guess, I consider them my 'uniform'. I love the light-weight tropical fabric and still find them suitable for travel to the northern latitudes. God, I love these shorts (and long pants version).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not the size you think... I purchased the Tropic-Weight Cargo Shorts, 10" Inseam in Eucalyptus, last week. Ordered a 34. Label said 34. They were huge. Not just big... I mean huge! I was able to put them on without unbuttoning the button. I measured ME! Then measured the shorts. The shorts measured a full 36 inches. Have reordered in size 32. I ALSO ordered the same shorts in the STONE. They too were way too big. They measured 35 inches. I have reordered them also. Nice shorts,... but, the size may throw you. Of course, you will figure that out for yourself. ;)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shorts, but the colors are incorrect I had two pair of these shorts before. The one that was my favorite was a very practical (never showed dirt) and useful (matched with every color shirt I have) khaki color with more brown in it to give it the properties described above. Unfortunately, the left pocket pleating got caught on a doorknob and ripped a hole. I darned it as best I could, but knew I needed a new pair. I ordered the "British khaki" because the color looked to be closest to my old favorite pair, but the actual color is what I would call mustard yellow meets sage green. They're still nice shorts in terms of how they are made and where the pockets are and how they fit, but they're ugly and don't match _any_ of my shirts. One would think that LL Bean would make sure that the color of shorts and shirts it sells can be combined properly without evoking the tastes of the 70s. Some of us depend on that kind of thing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from wear like iron Let me start by saying "I bought 2 of these for my husband and he loves them" is not a review. I'm 5-11 185 take a large in boxers, the 35" fits perfect and the 10" comes to the top of the knee. Cargos pockets are great for cell phones. Deep pockets and like the title states they wear like iron, but soft. Start to shrink by the end of their life 2 years. The stone color is basically white.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great fit! These shorts are an exact fit at my husband's waist. The material is good - its weight and texture satisfactory. However. they would be very much improved if the pockets had velcro not fiddly, very-hard-to-open buttons. But it's the size that matters most. These shorts are available in a 31" waist. Many others, at LL Bean and elsewhere, are available only at 32", 34" etc. The sizing called Small, Medium etc. is even worse- what is a man with a 31" waist to choose when small is 28-30" waist, medium 32-34" waist? I only wish more LL Bean men's products (such as BeanTrail Shorts) were available in 31" waist.
