Rated 1 out of 5 by Harold46 from Awful Nearly impossible to put on. The distance from the back of the shoe to the closest eyelet is about 3/4 of an inch less than any other pair of shoes I have. Spreading the eyelets as far apart as possible I can only, with GREAT difficulty get them on. Once on the length seems o'k but not the width. The sole is as wide as my other shoes but the upper area (aka where the foot goes) is 3/8 to a 1/2 inch narrower than my other shoes - even those that are D vs E width. I think my ankles are pretty normal for someone who wears size 12 shoes but you'd need very skinny ankles to comfortably get these on - but they'd still be narrow. Sending them back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ViennaWoods from Best ones out of stock I have bought several models of this shoe 10.5 W for my daily walk on sidewalks and through a park as well as occasional mountain trail use. The last pair I bought was last October - the grey model. I bought the brown model a couple of years ago, but it was stiffer and less comfortable than the other ones. I had to wear two pairs of socks to break it in for a couple of weeks. The other models were comfortable out of the box, provided flexibility in the sole for walking and the semi waterproof function was valuable. I would buy the other colors, but am reluctant to buy the brown one due to past experience. I hope LL bean gets the others back in stock in the next few months. I usually buy an extra pair to keep until the current ones wear out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by PhillyLee from Philly Lee says, waterproofing worked well! A.T. Thru-Hiker, 1990. Bean buyer since then. I bought two pair of these within the last 6 months. I only returned the first pair because I failed to realize how much my feet grew over the years. This is something all shoe buyers should consider, and measure regularly. Well, anyway I got my second pair and found myself in heavy rain, running across a wide city street through small rivers of rain and melted snow. As I'm jumping in, over and through I'm thinking to myself that this should put these shoes to the waterproof test. When I got home, removed them and felt my socks I was happily surprised to find them dry. So yes, I recommend these shoes. Now, I hold onto shoes forever, if they stand the test of time than better yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Trotalong from Wonderful Walking/Hiking Shoes I have no complaints with these shoes. I wear them everywhere and they are wonderful. I rarely give shoes this type of review. They have great cushioning and support of the foot. I have a large wide foot and they fit fine right out of the box. I probably should order another pair before they are sold out and I can't them any more. Great Shoes L.L. Bean!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Leucadia from Fourth Time a Charm This was the fourth time that I have ordered a waterproof shoe from LL Bean. The other ones had little to none arch support. This shoe is a very nice, snug fitting shoe with great arch support. I ordered this shoe back in the early winter when it started raining heavily here in California. It was on backorder until April. I tried to cancel my order, but LL Bean's system messed up and it showed up at my door after all the rains went away for another day (winter). I will probably just keep it because of how it fits; a lot better than than ones that I tried on at the national chain outdoor apparel and equipment store with three letters as its name. Who knows? If I attend another football game in inclement weather, I will wear them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by HikingRhyno from Sole Separation x 2 I've been wearing my Trail Model 4 Waterproof Hiking Shoes 3-5 times per week for 2-6hr's at a time for 8 months. I mainly use them for disc golf and hiking with my dog. The fit and comfort of these shoes has been fantastic! The sole durability of these shoes had been fantastic too (which is a huge challenge for disc golf shoes), until recently when the soles on both shoes simultaneously started to separate from the uppers where each shoe flexes at the ball of my foot. This separation has totally compromised the waterproof seal of both shoes. I feel I could easily wear these comfy shoes for a couple of years (which again is a huge challenge in disc golf shoes), if it weren't for the separation of the soles from the uppers. This is clearly a design/quality issue with how the soles are attached to the uppers, since others seem to have had the exact same problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Exercisedaily from Men's Trail Walker is a good shoe The current purchase replaces a pair bought several years ago that was worn out. I called L.L. Bean to find out if they kept past purchase information and found they did so I was able to get the size that was ordered last time since the size had worn off the tongue. The purchaser has one foot that is longer than the other so has to make sure it is comfortable on the larger foot but not too loose on the smaller. This shoe fits comfortably. It is a good shoe for trail walking and when walking the Rocky Mountain trails in Colorado they gripped smooth rocks and held well on dusty trails. The shoe wears well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JayD from Good Quality Light Weight Hiker Well cushioned and supportive. Slightly narrow and a bit small (I ordered my regular size). When I order another brand (New Balance) I usually take LL Bean's advice and order 1/2 length longer but my last order the NB was still cramped. On this shoe I think this route may have made it too long. I wear very thick athletic socks which may contribute to size variance. Anyway the shoes are well made and they look very nice. They are comfortable for street use as well. I will test the wear factor over time. Price wise they are of good value compared to other brands along this line. I have not tested the water proof factor as I live in Southern California where we are not well acquainted with an abundance of that substance.
