Rated 5 out of 5 by Hisacane from Excellent Shoes for Walking My Boston Terrier Bought these last winter when we got a new BT pup. The dog and I walk together for a bit over a mile three times a day every day of the week. That is 1100 miles of sidewalk and trail walking in all types of conditions and the shoes have held up incredibly well with 2 exceptions. The lining in the heel box for both shoes has worn through and I had to put better insoles in the shoes since the LL Bean soles were pretty bad. I wear these with a light pair of sport socks and have had no problems with blisters or the temp of my feet in hot or cold weather. A new pair is in my future. You won't be disappointed with these shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Silverado from Great hiking shoe While shopping online for a good hiking shoe I checked out L.L. Bean's website and found the Men's Trail Model 4 Ventilated Hiking Shoes. I usually don't order shoes online because I like to see how they fit first. I read the reviews and they seemed to be pretty good so I ordered a pair for me. I tried them on as soon as they arrived and they were very comfortable. The size and width were true to size but most of all they were very comfortable. They went on their first hike today in the Arizona mountains and they performed great. 5.3 miles later and no complaints. If needed I will purchase another pair in the future. They are great shoes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JRoss from Ok. I chose to look at Bean brand shoes because of the customer service. I chose these shoes because they seemed like a good option for me. I like the breathability and ventilation. They are very light and cool. I needed a shoe that wouldn't let my feet get uncomfortably hot. My main complaints are styling and cushioning. First, they look like something for older customers. They aren't "hip" or "stylish" like many other shoes today. Second, they have very firm soles. I would call them hard bottomed. Don't expect any bounce with these. I've had some running shoes for years I wear for walks and these shoes are so much harder.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BrdrGirl from Good lighter weight hiking shoe The ventilation makes it a better choice than the other Trail Model 4's on hot days. It dries fairly quickly after brief walks in damp grass, but gets a bit too wet to be useful in rain or other wet conditions. Great for working around the yard or shorter, dry walks & hikes. However, it has less cushioning than the other models, so not great on hard surfaces like rock, concrete, or even long walks on hard-surfaced floors, and my feet felt sore after a long hike (2+ miles) on a mostly grass & gravel trail. Agree with other comments re: the "slippery" laces; even a double-knot sometimes comes undone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cincy3 from Almost perfect for a guy with troublesome feet I am probably the most difficult guy to find shoes that work that you can find. After buying and returning other shoes from just about every chain you can name, including LL Bean, I found these. So far, after about a dozen wearings, they are working quite well. When it comes to shoes I am something of the proverbial "Princess and the pea". Much to my delight, these shoes (a) are not hot, (b) give reasonable support overall comfort and fit is good, (c) pricing is great, (d) and I am not anxious to kick them off after a few hours of wear. I did have to buy up a bit which others might want to consider. I went for a size up and a wide shoe and, well, it seems to work. My guess is that this is not my last pair of these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sophetta1 from OMG! You wouldn't... Believe how wonderful these shoes are! I'm not a *BOT*, I'm a real LL Bean "Outsider". I also have a pair of the "Waterproof" version of these and they are the most warm and dry shoes I've ever owned. I have worn them in the wet A LOT (I live in Oregon) and these babies kept my feet dry, but best of all WARM! I bought the *Ventilated* pair because the others were so warm. These Ventilate shoes are just what I wanted!! Cool, comfortable and awesome! You have to break them in, but then...WHOO HOO!!! *BUY THESE*!

Rated 5 out of 5 by BackwoodsBozo from Cool as ice tea in the shade Despite having too many light hiker type boots and shoes I bought these because I reasoned that the lack of waterproofing would render them cooler in dry climates and seasons. That reasoning proved to be correct. From the first wearing the Trail Model 4 Ventilated Hiking Shoe felt perceptively cooler than any other shoe I own. And wearing them with a Coolmax/Drimax type sock practically induces frostbite! Reasonably light weight, a fit as expected in my usual size for LL Bean shoes/boots and good looks with casual attire make these my favorite daily shoe for the Summer of '16. Tip: I gave them a light silicone spray out of the box and a couple of unsightly spills on the toes from who-knows-what disappeared with just water and a stiff fiber brush.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Alan10 from A step back I have been buying the trail model shoes for years and in general have been happy with them. Not so with this model. Compared to the previous model this one is noticeably tighter in the toe area. Interestingly the insert is exactly the same. There isn't a smidgen of difference between them. The problem is in the design of the toe area. It is noticeably tighter. In the previous model my toes had room to move, while the newest incarnation my toes are bunched together. This is not a comfortable shoe if you have wider feet (and yes I did get the wide). Hopefully in time the shoe will stretch out some, but I don't see them ever being as comfortable as the previous model. I also have the next step up from this which is the pathfinder, and that has no problems. Why L.L. Bean decided to change what was a comfortable and I would assume popular model of shoe and make it far less comfortable is beyond me. Not recommended.
