Rated 5 out of 5 by Midwestguy from A really nice sweater This cotton sweater is nicely made. It has a shawl type collar that can be turned up easily on a windy day and which also can be buttoned up almost to your chin when it's very windy. As at least one reviewer noted, it is heavy (my size M weighs just under 3 pounds) and I appreciate that extra heft. My experience is that cotton sweaters are not as warm as wool ones on a pound for pound basis so I did not wear this one under my coat when I was out for walks with temperatures in the 5 - 20 degree range. However it has been very useful the past couple of months with temps in the 40's and 50's and consistently strong winds.

Rated 4 out of 5 by nlarge from Nice Thick Shawl Collar! I am an absolute sucker for Aran-type sweaters. I was lucky to snag this one for a reasonable price when I paired my LL Bean credit card rewards with a sale. I ordered one size up given that it is cut in a slim fit, which turned out to be the right decision. After washing and drying once, it fits like a glove. The ornamental stitching is awesome (a great conversation starter), and the shawl collar is REALLY THICK! In fact, the whole sweater probably weighs several pounds. My only gripe is that the front of the sweep sits higher than that of the back, but it's not super noticeable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Karategranny from this is amazing I got this sweater after seeing a friend with one. I'm a 59 year old lady who likes baggy sweaters and sitting on my back porch with coffee, a book and my cat but I am also a black belt in karate, a new roller derby skater and a swimmer. I like mens sweaters because they are thicker and warmer and have large pockets. This sweater is perfect for chilly mornings, and it has become my go to sweater this fall! I wish it were offered in more colors though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by NYCBroadcaster from GREAT sweater! I'm big armed and big chested (very "athletic" build), and this fit me quite well. But be warned, this is a heavy sweater, and the "shawl" collar is very thick, almost like a scarf. Worn with a dress shirt underneath, it's not only physically heavy, but it's almost like wearing a light coat indoors (thank God it's all cotton so it breathes). This is a great sweater for moderately cool to downright chilly rooms (I work in a television studio where the temperature year-round is kept at about 60 degrees, so it's perfect for me). I cannot imagine, however, wearing this sweater, say, to a holiday party in a small New York City apartment packed with people, radiators going full blast -- I would die. If you're already a "warm" person -- save this sweater for outdoor walks in the spring and fall, or for those "man-cave" projects in your unheated garage or basement. By the way, I got mine in gold -- LOVE LOVE LOVE the gold color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JoannaM from Great cotton sweater I purchased a similar sweater a good number of years ago, and finally my family kept telling me I needed to replace it. It was getting very raggedy. I basically wore it 24/7 during the winter whenever I was inside. I wanted cotton so I could wash it, but my house is cold, so I wanted it to be warm. The sweater was perfect, as well as the one I bought previously. This is my third LL Bean cotton indoor winter sweater. Their average lifespan has been over ten years with constant wear seven months of the year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by KingNM from Substantial Very well made and heavy for a cotton cardigan. Exactly the quality I've come to expect from LL Bean. I'm 6' 180 and the large fits perfect; not too slim and not too baggy. Be advised that the two buttons near the upper right shawl are for design only and don't serve any function (I called to ask about this as well). But don't let that deter you, this is an excellent sweater.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Matt81401 from Really wanted to love this... But as you can see by the photo, it's definitely not the chunky, warm sweater the catalogue pictures would suggest. It's a good looking cotton knit that is more like a lattice curtain. Over a flannel it passes for a nice indoor sweater, but overall this piece isn't nearly up to the standard quality I expect from Bean, especially for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by anoldent from Consider your preferences when sizing I just bought this a couple of weeks ago, and after reading other reviews, I got the large - I do wear a size 44 sport coat, and the large is sized 42-44. But as the description says, this is cut trim, and it fits true to size. It looks very flattering worn over a tee shirt, and the arm length is right. This is the size to get if you're wearing it out and about. The knit design is beautiful, the shawl collar is nice and thick, and I love the honey color. But if you want a shawl collar sweater to throw on over whatever you're wearing, wear at home, and you like a loose fit, I'd recommend trying the next larger size. I'm sorry now I didn't send this one back and try the XL instead. Since it's all cotton, throwing a larger size in the dryer would probably shrink it down if it's a bit too big. Instead, I'm hoping this just stretches some. But I like it enough I'm considering ordering another, and giving this one as a gift to someone. This is why I miss brick and mortar stores, I hate having to send things back when they arrive and I'm just not sure.
