Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be Wary of Sizing My initial purchase, based on reading reviews, was a size Medium. I normally wear a Large in shirts and coats, because I like a looser rather than tighter fit. However, in the last year I have noticed that ALL of my L. L. Bean purchases have been off in size, relative to past purchases; shirts have had to be returned. So, sure enough, same thing here. Even the Medium was just way too big. I am 5 foot 9 inches tall and weigh 175 lbs. My chest measurement is 41 inches. I ended up exchanging for a Small - no kidding - and it fits correctly, and is in fact loose enough to wear a T-shirt, a sweater and a 200 weight fleece jacket underneath the coat comfortably.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good But Not Great Shell is fantastic. Wind and waterproof. But there is something off about the down liner. My core is warm, even in the North East and the recent single-digit temps, but it's like the arms haven't got as much fill (even in above freezing temps). Not my first parka or winter down jacket and this is the first one I can remember that felt this "uneven." Usually, a good down coat that is toasty without layers at "some" temp is consistent throughout. But this one leaves me having to toss on some fleece or a sweater to keep my upper and lower arms warm even when the rest of me is OK. Baxter might have been a better choice for me?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best investment I made for winter! I bought this coat near the end of last year's winter season. The jacket is very warm, durable, and comfortable. The real challenge was this morning; I live in Maine and it was 15 below when I walked the dog at 6am, with a foot of snow, and I was not the slightest bit cold in this jacket. And I was only wearing a tee shirt underneath the coat!! I tell everyone this is the best coat I have ever owned in my 52 years. Plenty of pockets, flaps, zipper covers, and even the hood is specially designed so it doesn't fall down in front of your face. I would buy another in a heartbeat. Expensive, but well worth it if you live in a cold area.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Inferior This would have been my fourth Maine Warden parka. I find the latest design not to my liking at all. I took it out for a test walk on a windy 26 degree day in upstate NY where I live. To sum up, I was cold especially in the upper thigh area where the new design does not provide insulation. I had to send the initial order back because the zipper was stuck. This is not the first item I have purchased recently from Bean that was in most ways inferior to to the "same" product purchased previously. I have spent thousands of dollars at Bean over the years but the current products are severely testing my desire to continue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Parka - Just love it. Highest Rating! I just love the Maine Warden's Parka. I have had 3 of these jackets over a 25 year period. I still use coat #2 (12 plus years old and looks great) but bring out my new #3 for the really cold weather. The Gortex shell on my new version is outstanding. It really cuts the wind and no moisture gets to you - rain nor snow. Just a fantastic jacket. I use it in the canyons of New York City and also when I go out into the woods of upstate NY - you cannot do wrong by ordering this and you will have a wonderful warm coat for many years to come. Well worth the price. Treat yourself and be warm and protected from the harshest winters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Gold Standard I've been wearing this for years and years. Fits better, sheds water and snow better, lots of USEFUL, conveniently placed pockets, plenty warm, long enough to fully cover (and warm) my butt but has useful side zips so I'm not restricted when jumping around, functional elastic skirt that is removable and actually works, fully adjustable and functional, removable hood, elastic and velcro on the cuffs and on and on. Clearly, designed by someone who knows and understands the needs of a person out in the cold and/or wet. Made better, stronger, bartacks where needed, excellent stitching. Suggested improvements: On the two large cargo pockets, remove the zippers and replace with flaps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost perfect I live in Buffalo, NY, and it reached -27 degrees last week (with windchill); I was sweating in this coat! It is easily the warmest coat I have ever owned and keeps me extremely warm with only a thermal long-sleeve underneath it. If your main concern is staying warm, then invest in this coat. The only drawback is the main double zipper, which is too fiddly to fasten once you have a decent pair of gloves on (with the lower clasp, I am not even sure why LL Bean needed to have a double zipper here). That said, it is very easy to put the gloves on after fastening, as the wrist cuffs are simple to pull down over your gloves.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Beautiful Parka This is a well made, solid construction garment. Colors are good. It looks good too. Some suggestions for future: I normally fit an XLT in any thing I get from LLBean. I had to get this in the XXLT for it to fit. Maybe when the liner switched from thinsulate to down the added bulk in the insulation was not accommodated for in designing the shell to be a little bigger. Thus the fit is snug for me even in the XXLT even when I normally fit an XLT. The pocket openings after you unzip them are a bit small, hard to stuff leather gloves in etc. But otherwise I enjoy wearing this good looking well constructed parka.
