Rated 4 out of 5 by 0001 from Pretty Good Some of what they got right, and even very right: Fit, appearance, material, stitching. This jacket comes pretty close to something you might expect to see in their signature collection. Why I'm knocking off a point: It's too long for a utility jacket. Could lose even 6 or 8 inches off the bottom. The extra length sometimes gets in the way. Another commenter suggested a bottom up zipper for when you sit. That might be good for a parka, but utility jackets should just be shorter. Other: Doesn't block wind all that well. Also, not a lot of room for layering. BUT... these are not flaws, they simply go with this kind of jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rzilla from Great but size off The quality is great like other 'll bean items. Color is exactly as pictured. I originally got the medium as it says 38-40 chest and I am a 38.5 inch chest. The medium fits me more like a large does. My dad is a large usually, and the medium would fit him i think. With the small i can ware 1 sweatshirt under it and it's comfortable, but could not out too much bulk under it before it would be tight. id say, if your close to a 40, medium is probably ok, but the 38 or 39 chest may be better with a small if you don't like baggy clothes

Rated 4 out of 5 by ezmike from Almost what is expected... The fit and fabric are as expected. The construction is about what you’d expect fro LL Bean. Overall, it’s that in between jacket I was looking for but it is not what most people would expect from a utility jacket. The fit is too tapered and the length too short. Then there’s that zippered pocket on the left front chest, it’s useless. It’s not deep enough or long enough for anything. Especially not a cell phone, which is why you would think it’s there. I use it for receipts from my errands. In the day it would be idea for my Zippo lighter but of no real use today.

Rated 3 out of 5 by WoodyOwl from Almost This is the closest that LLB has come to a good utility jacket. While most items are tailored like a flour sack, this has a taper to it, which is nice if you're looking straight on at the jacket, but from the side, the bottom portion sticks out, leaving it a a little frumpy looking. The outer and inner material is good, as is the color (green). These things don't overcome some really simple oversights. First of all, the zip pocket on the front left breast pocket, which would be good for a phone is impossible small, maybe an ipod would fit. Secondly, if you want to use and inside breast pocket, it's on the right side. Great for a left handed person, but only 10% of the world in left-handed (odd design decision). This pocket also has velcro to secure it, not a zipper. Velcro is for technical jackets, toddler clothes, and senior citizen shoes. Lastly, the front hand pockets have a strange fit. Overall, they're getting there, but still strange design choices.

Rated 3 out of 5 by NickName from Could be 5 stars, but... Don't let the title mislead you, for the right person, this is an *excellent* jacket. I originally ordered an XL and found that it was too tight in the arms and shoulders to allow me an acceptable range of motion. An XXL fits across that area, but runs quite large in the waist and allows breezes and updrafts in the jacket. I think the next iteration of the jack should be slightly fitted or include a drawstring. That being said, it's water resistant and seems pretty durable, so paired with a sweatshirt, it's become my go-to for morning dog walks. The zipper is well constructed and I love the "snappable with one hand" snaps to close.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BeanLover from The Perfect Jacket This jacket really exceeded my expectations. It is very well made and fits me perfectly; almost a tailored fit! It’s comfortable, warm and waterproof; perfect for fall! I originally purchased this jacket to use around my farm as a “utility” coat. But its so nice, I’m planning to use it as a casual “everyday“ coat. I am very happy with my purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by LeolaLin from Perfect mid-weight jacket Ordered a Large which was too small. Immediately returned it in the manner prescribed and reordered an XLarge which came quickly and was the correct size. For someone with a thicker chest, I would go up a size.
