For nearly 90 years, we've been making our authentic Scotch Plaid flannel shirts the way we always have: better than everyone else's. Our exclusive flannel fabric is meticulously woven with longer-staple cotton, which means the individual cotton fibers are about one-quarter inch longer than short-staple fibers, making a huge difference in fabric strength and quality. Then, it's meticulously brushed eight times on each side and given a "touch test" by a master weaver to declare it soft enough.

Where is the quality control?
I was excited to receive my L.L. Bean Scotch Flannel Shirt in size Medium Tall, and in that wonderful yellow color. When I tried it on, I couldn't believe how poorly it fit--and how slipshod the tailoring was. The right shoulder fit perfectly, yet the left shoulder was about an inch wider, making my left side look lopsided, with a square, bunched up shoulder. How could this shirt make it through quality control? I hesitate to order another (of course, this color isn't carried in the store near me), because I imagine they're all going to be the same, coming off the same line, from the same factory. Was this a one-off mistake, or is it endemic to the line where these shirts are made? I immediately returned it, with great disappointment. I would love to hear from L.L. Bean on this, as I'd be glad to add this color shirt to my wardrobe. I've never encountered such a poorly constructed shirt--and that includes from places like J.C. Penney or discount stores like T.J. Maxx. Come on, Bean, get it together!
