Great jacket but the zipper sucks!
After trying to buy this jacket for years with my annual Xmas LL Bean gift card because it always sold out by then, I made a pre-emptive strike this year and finally got one. I already have my 90s Barbour Border Coat with with snap-in pile insulation but wanted a shorter waxed cotton jacket with down, and Barbour doesn't do down. It's great looking and extremely warm but a little short and boxy. To be fair, I'm size 46, wide shouldered, barrel chest, lift a lot, and try to keep the belly down so most traditional cut items are boxy on me. That said, the length could still be a little longer. I'd get a Long but then the sleeves would be too long. I've seen people complain about the sleeves being too long on the Regular sized jackets but they are a perfect length for shooting/hunting in the cold, like the Barbour. It would be nice if there was some kind of a cuff inside of the end of the sleeve. Also, I don't understand why the diamond pattern is exclusive to the Women jacket and vest.
The only real issue that I have with the coat is the zipper! Why they went with this small-toothed, difficult to zip, and small cheap-tabbed zipper is beyond me, especially for when your finger are cold. It should not be this hard to properly zip your zipper on a $250.00 outdoor coat! It is only a matter of time before this zipper breaks, I have to source a replacement zipper, and pay someone to put-on a new one. A jacket like this shouldn't have planned obsolescence built into it. This is the area that Barbour excels past LL Bean. In the future, please use a better and larger toothed zipper with larger tabs. You could even create a wider tabs with your name engraved into. The key word being subtle, not a tab the shape of your name.
All that being said, I do love the jacket, I'm glad I didn't get a shorter and less warm Barbour, and may buy one for my son next Xmas- if it has a better zipper because the current zipper won't last a month in his impatient and destructive hands.

Waxed cotton down jacket
Great looking jacket, very warm. Yes, the zipper is too small and so are the lower hand warmer pockets but I took away a star because of the inconsistent sizing from LL Bean. I have other LL Bean jackets that are "traditional fit", size XXL and they fit fine but this one is a bit snug across the mid-section. It should motivate me to lose a little weight but the fact that it is tight is annoying and you never know how something from LL Bean will fit despite the description.

Warm beautiful coat
This will last a life time. Has been chill factors of below zero my husband said this coat allows no wind or or cold in. Also a very handsome coat.

Decent jacket
Not as waxed as previous ones have been. It’s still a great jacket. The only thing I would suggest is LL Bean go back to the one way zipper instead of the new two way.

Great jacket
Love this jacket. Very warm without being excessively heavy or bulky. Got it just before a heavy snowstorm and was completely comfortable. I agree with previous reviews that the zipper is subpar, but no major issues so far. Also think some larger pockets instead of many small pockets would be preferable. But overall I love the jacket and it’s a great value compared to other waxed jackets on the market.
