Belt sizing is not accurate
I just received my 36" belt today. The online recommendation is to purchase the same size as your pants and that this belt could even accommodate a 38" waist. The belt measures 43" from the top of the buckle to the end. I have 2 other good quality leather belts which both measure 45". My new LL Bean chino belt has me using the 2d to last hole. I think I should have ordered the next size up and the recommendation by LL Bean should be corrected.

Not the same belt anymore
I have purchased four or five of this belt over the past 15 years, but not sure if I will be able to anymore. The belt is not the soft, pliable leather it once was, and the three inches shorter than the other two I still wear. The width is also slightly wider, which ruins how comfortable the belt fits. I am not sure if I will exchange for the next size.

Size Up for Proper Fit
Ignore LL Bean's sizing advice - this is the most important thing to know before purchasing. LL Bean recommends ordering the same size as your pants waist, but this is completely wrong. If you follow their guidance, the belt will barely reach the first hole and look like you ordered the wrong size. Always order one size up from your waist measurement for a proper fit that looks good and functions correctly.
I've owned this exact belt since 2018 and recently ordered the same size in a different color, so I have direct comparison experience. The new belt is a full inch shorter than my 2018 version - same size, but clearly a manufacturing change. This appears to be a cost-savings move by the company, but it significantly impacts the product.
The shorter length creates two main problems:
1. Fewer adjustment holes - limits your ability to tighten or loosen the belt as needed
2. Poor aesthetics - the shorter length doesn't look as proportionally appealing
Quality remains consistent with my older belt - same materials and construction standards. The leather and hardware feel identical to my 2018 purchase.
Bottom line: It's still a decent belt, but be aware of these changes. Order one size up from your waist measurement, expect it to be shorter than older versions, and know that you'll have fewer holes for adjustment. The functionality and appearance issues from the reduced length are disappointing for a brand known for quality and longevity.
Would I buy again? Probably, but only with the proper sizing and realistic expectations about the recent changes.
