Our iconic 1980 Blue Rock Sweater was so good, we had to bring it back twice--once for the launch of our original L.L.Bean Signature line, and again this season. Made of 100% Shetland wool knit that's incredibly soft and toasty warm without feeling too heavy or bulky.
Originally inspired by Norwegian sweaters and knit from soft, substantial 100% wool, our 1980 Blue Rock Sweater was an instant classic. We reinterpreted it (and renamed it) with a more modern fit during the launch of our L.L.Bean Signature line in 2010, while making sure to keep the same authentic details as the original. Turns out we love it just as much now as we always have--proving that some things truly never go out of style.

I have cotton waffle cardigan sweaters in five colors. This is my first wool sweater. I like it. I’m secretly hoping that they will do an antique plum version of the cotton waffle cardigan. Hint. Hint. Hint.

Be a woman, buy this sweater
I’m so tired of women’s clothing that isn’t functional - why would I want a scoop neck in woolen WINTER sweater (esp since women tend to be colder than men!) So, I was very excited to learn this is available in XS. Comparatively, the S was too baggy around the chest/armpit area. I now have XS in 2 colors (and would buy black if available). It’s a nice fit - a bit snug w a thermal and hoodie underneath. For reference, I’m 5’4, 155lbs, busty/curvy. I don’t prefer the oversized look/leggings, otherwise I’d probably have opted for S. I prefer this to the ragg wool cardigan because of the size and because it has a button for the very top of the shall collar, à helpful touch on very cold mornings not offered in the ragg wool. Bean: I spoke to multiple women over a couple visits who were also shopping in the men’s section for more functional, sturdily made clothes. Like me, some even said they prefer the muted or more earthy tones available in men’s clothes.
