I needed a new pair of waterproof shoes for Winter
Bought for winter but have not had a real occasion to wear them yet. They are comfortable, fit great, and the only time I've warn them is in the house. But they are as expected.

Pros and cons
I loved the cushioning and first quality construction, but even tho' the description said there is a "breathable mesh", my experience was my feet were uncomfortably hot. I returned the hikers and got the ventilated model (without waterproofing) which are much better for me.

Trail Model X Hikers
Want to say, love love love my new Trail Model X low WP hiker shoes. I am 73 and these shoes feel so stable, comfortable and just Solid. I walk my dog two to three times a day so stability is key. Once I put them on, I feel I’m standing up much straighter and ready to go. Living in the Pacific Northwest where we enjoy lots of outdoors activities, water repellent is a must.

Model x has taken a step backwards in quality
I have worn versions of Trail Model Hikers for 15 years. This year’s model are poorly designed and inferior in quality to years past. While I noticed that ‘X’ hikers were more lightweight and less bulky on the foot, they are not as durable. Mine began coming apart over about six months - particularly the lip on the back of the heel, which has a habit of catching itself on anything solid that touches the back of the heel and then pulling the back of the outsole apart. Additionally the waterproofing lasted about 90 days before seemingly any type of moisture over the toe box made my feet soaking wet. I hope these issues will be considered for future models. I’d love to have the old quality back that has typified past years models.

If I could give it 6 Stars I would
I was planning on doing light hiking in Maine and New Hampshire this summer with family and needed sturdy shoes, so I purchased this pair. Even though they said wide, they were ever so slightly narrower than I thought I wanted, but still seemed to fit well. I wore them pretty much every day for over a week and they only got more and more comfortable. We hiked (and swam) in streams and the shoes are completely water-proof. Yes, I found myself stepping in shallow running water to say, look, waterproof! Normally, I make a purchase of shoes or clothing and then my wife has to listen to me complain. Not with these shoes. They were fantastic. One day we cheated and rode the COG railway up Mt. Washington, but we did wander around at the summit, and I would have felt perfectly fine climbing up or down with them along the AT.
