- With light or midweight socks: Whole sizes, order one size down. Half sizes, order 1½ size down. Example: 9 or 9½, order a size 8. With heavyweight socks: Whole sizes, order your normal size. Half sizes, order one size down. Example: 9 or 9½, order a size 9.
The original Maine Hunting Shoe was Leon Leonwood Bean's first product, introduced in 1912. Over the years, we've made lots of improvements to these boots, but hunters have told us that they miss the moccasin-like feel that our original boots had in the woods. So we set out to bring it back.

The leather, and color
I bought this boot some 35 years ago in the 10" lighter colored leather. I wore them out, thus thus purchase. I wanted the lighter leather color but apparently it is not offered in the 10" size. Also, the thickness/quality of the leather in the new boot doesn't seem to be the same as my older pair.

Main Boot for Our Maine Winter
I have the taller version of these boots which I used for an extended hunting trip that would have me out walking all day. I wanted the 10” model to serve as my main footwear to allow for multiple on/off for our day to day walks and errands in the Maine winter. They have worked perfectly!

Tried three sizes all did not fit
I really wanted to love these (given they are made in USA) but after trying three different sizes (and spending about $450) they all did not fit comfortably. The quality was very good and leather was nice and sturdy feeling. They are not very comfortable—with the heel being smaller and unsupportive for a stride. The biggest issue however is the inside heel pulling down my socks when I’m walking. The crossover between the rubber boot and leather portion would rub my heels and cause my socks to come down. It seems like this is a known issue as They tried to put a piece of leather in that area but the rubber bottoms just have such a weird fit that it didn’t work for my feet. I normally wear a 10.5-11 regular width. I tried 10.5, 10, and 9.5 based on their convoluted sizing recommendations and they all did the same thing to my heel. I couldn’t have gone any smaller or my toes would not have fit. Overall I would not recommend them. Only if you are OK with spending several hundred dollars hoping to try on a few pair and find one that fits.

Nice, but their sizing...
These seem very well made, but sadly run ridiculously large. I bought a full size under what I wear in numerous other brands of shoes and boots but these are still too large. Unfortunately, I wore them outside when trying them and they are not in new condition, so I guess I will have to live with these oversized boots. Maybe, I can find some super thick socks to go with them so I get some use from them.
Start giving realistic size information so purchasers can trust your ads when ordering.

Bring Back the Canvas!!!
Got 7 years out of my first pair (which I still use w/worn soles & torn canvas) before ordering these. They're used year round in Michigan's U.P. wherever needed. This time I went up a full size (9-10, usually wear 10.5-11 elsewhere) in order to accommodate thicker socks and I'm glad I did; thinner socks still feel fine. I think the leather upper transitions to the rubber lower more comfortably interior wise on my janky ankles (car accident) but man, the canvas was/is cool looking.
