Large pack, but needs compression
I bought this bag to use for air travel with my laptop and other items. The pockets are great for organizing, and it certainly is spacious. Easily holds a portable monitor with room to spare. I do wish there was more padding at the bottom of the laptop pocket to keep it from dropping to the bottom and getting dented. Also, compared to a much pricier bag of similar size by another major outdoor retailer, this bag does not have any means of keeping the contents compressed/contained.This means that everything even in the thin pockets slides to the bottom. It could really use some kind of compression streps on the bottom or lower part of the bag to help keep contents well-distributed. As it is, it will be very pear shaped when loaded. But, for the price & capacity I will keep it for occasional use and try to figure out how to minimize the thickness.

Works well as a travel bag
I bought this to serve as my "new LL Bean backpack" to be an all-in-one bag for short work trips. Compared to my decades worth of previous LL Bean backpacks used for this purpose, this bag has a much more practical shape because it's very square on top. This allows me to, for example, put a pair of running shoes on top of my clothing and toilet kit, and still I am able to easily close the bag.
I use a 15" laptop and I always carry it in its own padded case. The laptop-in-case is too large to fit in the laptop section. I suspect a smaller laptop in a bag would fit.
Other commenters have mentioned the lack of zippered compartments on the outside of the bag. Yes, it would be handy to have them, but the smaller zippered compartments have easy-access zippered pouches right at the top. So that's not a dealbreaker, and something I can get used to.
One comment to LL Bean - you used to have a backpack that had a separate zippered compartment at the bottom of the bag. Useful for shoes (as well as other things). Please bring back a bag with this feature!

Great travel pack
Bought this backpack mainly for travel as the daypack I’d been using for years wasn’t really big enough to carry all the chargers, devices, books, etc. needed for long cross country trips. Have to say this thing is bottomless: it seems to hold everything and then some, including the fall jacket I didn’t need in California and the dress shoes I bought en route to a reception. The only drawback was that it almost became too heavy for me to carry! Fortunately the straps are well padded with some insulation inside the pack. It fit well under the seat on the plane so I didn’t need to stow it in the crowded overhead compartment. Highly recommend, but since it’s so easy to stuff so many things in it, be sure to check the weight before you head for the airport.

Great travel backpack with loads of room
I just got back from a 20 day vacation to Italy. Iberia Aurlines lost my suitcase on the way in so the only items I had for my trip were the ones I had put in this backpack.
I lived out of this pack for 20 days while in Italy and it worked great. It was large enough to hold 5 t-shirts, 2 pairs of pants, 2 dress shirts, 1 pair of shorts, 2 pairs of shoes, 1 dopp kit, 6 pair of socks, misc. electronics, and i Rick Steves: Italy travel book.
Straps are highly adjustable and comfortable for long periods of time. The materials seem very sturdy and of high quality. I dragged this pack through train stations, airports, and bus stops all over Italy and it held up very well.
I bought this pack exclusively for my European trip but now it will be my go to bag whenever I travel. I love this pack.

Worth Every Penny, Kids still like them!
Finally a backpack for my middle school kid that doesn't rip within the first week. Most years we end up buying 2 cheap backpacks. Even tried "heavy duty" hiking back packs. Nothing survives the weight of what the kids carry. So far it's going strong! He is much more comfortable carrying his books with this backpack because of the padding. I wish I had just got him an LL Bean bag years ago. Mine lasted me through college and I'll be happy if this one get him thru the year!

So many pockets
The extra volume is at the top but it’s still roomy. The thing I like the most is all the pockets. It makes it so much easier to organize all the things that my son needs for the school day as a highschooler.
