Best Boots Ever
I've had a variety of LL Bean low cut hiking boots. These are by far and away the best. The fit is great, being waterproof and insulated in New England snow is great, and the sole is great on slippery and uneven surfaces. I really like these boots and will probably replace them with the same ones when I wear these out.

Water Repellent but Uncomfortable
This shoe is waterproof effective for slushy conditions, but it is greatly lacking in comfort. You wouldn’t want to walk a mile in my shoes!

A New Shoe with a Vintage Look
This shoe is sturdy in keeping with the L.L. Bean tradition. Substantial may be a better word but shouldn't be applied traditionally, for this is a thoroughly modern shoe. The outer layer is water-resistant/repellent and the entire shoe is insulated. That's a rare combination in a low-cut winter shoe. The sole lugs are deep and run in enough different directions to resemble a Michelin All-Weather Directional Tire! The appearance, as the catalogue/website suggests, is ruggedly montane, although the fabric collar could be tinted a tad more orange and a tad less red. It would make for a closer match between the leather upper and the fabric atop. All in all, though, this is a splendid sheo that is breaking in beautifully and allows one's feet to "feel" the surface almost as well as summer sandals! Very much worth considering if you want an all-purpose cold weather shoe before the next Nor'easter strikes New England!
