School Backpack Good and Bad
I bought this backpack a month ago and within the first 2 weeks the handle ripped off from the body of the backpack. I am extremely disappointed. The backpack itself is very nice and seems of quality however I’m afraid it will not make it to the end of the school year. This was too expensive to buy for 2 months of use. Not sure if I will consider buying again for the next school year. Just very disappointing.

Falling apart already (like everyone else's)
Didn't look deeply into this backpack as I assumed I would be getting L.L. Bean quality of years past. Like all the other recent reviews the top handle of this backpack is falling apart after barely 3 months of light-duty (kindergarder) use. 67 days, as of today, of hanging slightly-more-than-its-own-weight by the top loop and it is a trainwreck.
There is clearly as systematic design and/or manufacturing flaw here.

Well-made and Built to Last
The Bean Explorer 25L backpack is really impressive. The materials feel extremely durable and the stitching and zippers are the high quality you would expect from LL Bean. It’s comfortable to carry all day and has plenty of space and smart pockets for organization.

Less than a month and carry loop tearing
For a $60 backpack, I would expect it to last longer than 3 weeks. Carry loop appears to not have been sewn correctly and now it is fraying after only a few weeks back to school after it was given as a Christmas present. LLBean might replace, but I will have to find the time to go do that in-store. :-(

Inconsistent Quality
We have purchased 3 Explorer Backpacks over the past several years or so and had been really happy with them. They are the perfect size for elementary students - school folder, coats, sports stuff, etc.fits great in them. However, we bought a new one for my 4th grade son this summer as his one that he had used for past 3 years was showing signs of wear. Similar to other reviews, within a month or so of light use the top strap ripped off (similar to other people's photos). I just submitted an exchange in the hopes that maybe they've solved the issue. The two other Explorer backpacks we had were great and have not had this issue. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Disappointed
My 3 sons have been using LL Bean backpacks for years. The Explorer my first grader is now using is the same that my 9th grader used for 6 years prior. This year my 5th grader wanted a different color (from the one he has been using for the past 7 years) and we obliged with a new Explorer. This is our second pack in less than 5 months, after replacing the first due to this same strap malfunction. These bags are rock solid otherwise, but this is a HUGE inconvenience and disappointment from one of our favorite brands. What is happening??

Great backpack
My kindergartener has loved this backpack! It is really high quality and durable. We love the internal pockets and organization and it holds a lot. Perfect for lunchbox, folders, notebooks, a change of clothes and more. My only wish is that it had a chest clip, but otherwise it's perfect.

Top strap broken within 3 weeks
I purchased this same backpack for my son who is now in Grade 2 and it has been incredible. I repurchased for my son in JK this year and the top handle broke extremely quickly with regular use. They no longer have the same style available, so I am not sure what to. Will probably return and try another company as this seems to now be very common.
