Not what they used to be
I'm with those who find the tongue, sharply angled into the ankle and stiff, uncomfortable. I love my few years old 6" boots, will now have to ration wear. The tongue isn't sewn into ankle and softened quickly. This design might resist leaks from rain more effectively, but if it hurts to wear it's not an improvement. The footbed is fine. Have returned.

Fantastic Boots
These are great boots. I wear them all the time. This is my second pair. They do run large, I normally wear a size 8 and I have to get a size 7 for these, and that’s with thick winter socks. They do take a while to wear in and become comfortable, but once they’re they are great, just don’t put them on out of the box and expect to head out on a super long hike without backup boots or at least bandaids.

Gorgeous and made like it’s 1912
Gorgeous and stunning boots, you can feel the quality. They are a whole size large. I’m an 11 in women’s and had to exchange for a 10 and still have room for thick socks. My husband is a men’s 11 and I bought the 10 for him automatically and same, room for thick socks. Fits beautifully on us both. Great purchase, well worth the money for a classic that’ll last years!

Did not Fit at first- Then, ah-ha! moment
I bought these as my Christmas gift to myself. I sized it one full size below my normal 7 1/2 size to a 6 1/2 and even selected WIDE. The tongue is sewn into the side making it waterproof. At first I couldn't get my foot into the boot. My daughter laughed at me and showed me how to untie the spiral at the end of the lace, releasing the full lace length, which allowed me to pull the tongue up enough to get my foot into the boot. Duh!
