My wife and I have around 20 pair of lined and unlined Rivertons. We most likely will not purchase again after the redesign...the fit is off and we miss our zipper side pocket. Change back!

Significant Downgrade
Why mess with success? These pants were a disappointment in every single way compared to the original version (which now seems to be discontinued).
Perhaps the most important part of any pair of pants is the fit, and these are certainly nothing to call home about. The original version fit so so well, feeling trim against my legs, while still offering room to move and bend. It was one of the biggest reasons I kept coming back to them. But these are much more uncomfortable to wear. They're much tighter in the waist and upper-thigh area, which makes it difficult to stretch and maneuver my body while wearing them. This is critical for any kind of outdoor activity, and because they feel so stiff on my legs, they always sit at the back of my dresser and are only worn while my older pants are being washed. Also, somehow, they made the fabric of these far more scratchy and irritating against my skin.
The pocketing situation on these pants is also awful. The regular hand pockets are so tight against my body that they rarely get used, and the other two additional pockets that the original Rivertons had have now been moved to inconvenient and nonsensical locations. The right side cell-phone pocket has now been moved to the back of the left leg, making it awkward and difficult to grab things since it's now only accessible to my left hand, which is my non-dominant hand, so I have to use both hands and play a juggling game whenever I want to use my phone. This awkward location also means that I can't sit down on a chair without first grabbing my phone because its placement always puts my phone directly under me while sitting. This wouldn't be as big of an issue if I could put it in my front pockets like a normal pair of men's pants, but unfortunately, the pockets are just far too tight and short for an average smartphone to fit comfortably in them without digging into my waist. The zippered pocket is also a disaster now that it has been moved to the backside. This was once a very useful pocket on the side of my leg, but now it has been moved to the back side, where it now sits behind a typical back pocket. This means that since the pants are so constricting, you can't realistically put things in both back pockets without their capacities eating into each other. You must choose whether you want speed and access with the typical back pocket, or security with the zippered bocket- but you cannot have both. This also means that you can't sit down with anything in the zippered pocket, unless you fully intend on sitting on your belongings.
The only reason these didn't get one star is that they are wearable, and they do feel fairly durable. However, the first version also felt durable while being vastly more functional and comfortable. I can't possibly understand why L.L. Bean decided to re-work a pair of pants that was perfect in every way, when this is the result. The Rivertons were once my favorite pants ever, but now I only wear this updated version when I absolutely have nothing else to wear. I will certainly not be spending this kind of money on these pants and cannot recommend them to anyone else. Perhaps when they bring back the old version, they'll get my money again.

Liked the previous version, these are just as good
I had several pair of the "old" Riverton pants, and bought a pair of the "new" style when I wanted another color. Yes, they are not the same, but they are just as good. The hammer pocket is better placed for my cell phone, and I like the fit and the new ripstop-type (?) material.

Bring Back the Original Riverton Pants
Perhaps the average review of 2.2 out of 5 sends a clear message that the new Riverton pants are not the original Riverton pants that were were a favorite of many LL Bean customers. The original Riverton pants are the only pants I have worn for well over 7 years as they were well made and fit perfectly. As one of my original 4 pairs was finally showing their age I tried on the new Riverton's to find that they in no way resembled the originals either in fit or quality. BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL RIVERTON'S and I will be the first to purchase at least another four pair even at a premimum as I live in Canada and will continue to support LL Bean for many years to come.

Shouldn’t have changed them
I used to wear Riverside pants all the time, then the design changed. I see that everyone complains about this. Don’t mess with success! I don’t buy them anymore, have moved on to other pants. Not as good. I have three pairs left, I wear them carefully, sigh

Poor fit
The cut was wrong for both the waist (too tight) and inseam (too long). This was a letdown, since I usually fit 32-32 cut pants very well.

Please Bring Back!
I tried the new Riverton pants...sent back. Shallow pockets, moved my fav cell phone pocket. Don't fit same. I LOVE the old style, EVERYTHING about them and they are my go-to everyday pants. I'm currently rotating the three pair I own, praying they last a LONG time and praying that you go back to the great original design.
