Product Details

Our newest upland hunting vest features classic waxed-cotton with a modern twist: it's machine washable. Working with British Millerain, we designed this fabric to be tossed into a washing machine without losing any of its great qualities.

  • Traditional Fit.

There's nothing like the classic ruggedness of waxed cotton. The only drawback is the time-consuming process of cleaning by hand after you've had it in the field a few times. We worked with the originator of waxed cotton, British Millerain, to develop this innovative fabric that eliminates all cleaning fuss. Just throw it in the wash like any other piece of clothing. It'll come out looking just as good and with all of its durability and water resistance 100% intact.

  • 100% cotton shell with 100% acrylic overlays.
  • Machine wash, line dry.
  • Large, lined front entry game pouch holds 3 or 4 large upland birds like pheasant.
  • Upper hand warmer pockets for cradling a shotgun; reverse welt helps keep water and debris out.
  • Provides rugged, cool weather protection for the upland hunter.
  • Waist length provides good protection and all around comfort.
  • Durable fabric withstands heavy brush and briars.
  • Lower shell pockets are large enough to each carry a box of 12 ga.; 5 ammo loops inside each.
  • Waxed cotton shell fabric is highly water resistant.
  • Generous cut for layering with full range of motion and unimpeded gun mount.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from pretty useless now as a safety vest I had bought the regular cotton version in 2017 and the blaze orange faded to the point that it wasnt bright enough to be acceptable. So i bought this one in 2019. Now i am getting ready to go hunting and this one is faded so bad i cant use it either.......otherwise it the waxed portion still looks like new. What is the point of having the hunter orange on outerwear if the sun fades them to the point of not being able to use them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rugged Vest, In Need Of Few Improvements I purchased this vest earlier this year to replace a wonderful LLBean Pa'tridge Vest I purchased in 1997 I finally wore out. I grouse hunt an average of 30 outings annually. The English waxed cotton of the new vest is simply 'the best' - rugged and thornproof, albeit a little hot on days over 60F, but bearable. There two shortcomings in its design: The inside storage pocket should have a velcro or zipper closure. Next, the orange material that extends over the shoulders, is simply not robust at all. After wearing my vest on thirteen outings this season the material is shredding over my right shoulder where I rest my SxS double gun as I follow my Llewellin setter through the woods. Also, the orange material is pelling in other areas covering the vest. In my humble view, replace the orange material with one that is robust and resistant to abraision, and LLBean will have a winner made to withstand the rigors of ruffed grouse hunting, and their living environment - just like the old Pa'tridge vest!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, so good I like the vest overall, I wish it had zipper pocket inside for license, keys, or GPS

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Purchase Fabric is durable; day two opening weekend was heavy cover and the vest is no worse for wear. The zippered back of the game pouch is a nice feature; easy to clean. The water bottle pockets in the back sides weren't listed in the description when I bought it, but welcome, and the larger pocket on the outside of the game pouch is big enough for a reservoir. It was easy to keep myself and my spaniel hydrated. I would buy this again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Durable material, orange has faded This material is strong and durable. Shell loops are a little tight for 12 ga. The orange has faded after a few seasons and I agree with those who say the buttons are a bit of a pain. They haven't broken in yet after a couple years. Overall, it is ok, but I'd probably buy something else if I had it to do over again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well constructed. While bird hunting last fall with my son in law, mentioned that he’d like to get a good upland hunting vest someday. With Christmas coming up I thought I’d surprise him with this vest. While I was ordering I thought that I may as well get one for myself. The vest has plenty of pockets for extra ammo, compass, keys...etc. The pouch for birds is large, expandable and lined with a material to keep any blood on the birds from soaking through. The buttons are really tough to close and open the vest. I think they will break in after a while but they are very stiff. It would be almost impossible to work them while wearing gloves. I’m thinking that snap closures or zippers might have been better. The waxed cotton looks extremely durable and should stand up well in the briars and thickets. The fit is generous enough to wear layers underneath if needed. I’m sorry that I can’t honestly give it a 5 star rating. I haven’t had the chance to field test it yet and I’m being a bit reserved because of the difficult buttons vs. snap closures I’m anxious to wear it next season though and I’m sure it will be more than adequate.
