Gorgeous parka but made for someone shorter
I ordered this parka as I have the original Maine parka and wanted something longer for our cold winters in Ottawa. It arrived and the coat looked to be everything the description stated. When I put it on, it was clear that the coat was designed for someone quite a bit shorter than me ( I am just under 6 ft tall ). It has pull tabs on the sides to nip the coat in--on me, the tabs are located near my bustline and they are blacd and very noticeable, so they made the coat look like it was a empire waist ( under my bust ). These tabs are not needed. If the tabs were not there, I would have kept the coat but sadly I had to return it. LL Bean, please consider redesigning this coat and offering Tall sizing for women. You carry Petite, Plus and Regular. Plus and Regular are based on an individual that is average height--5'6". Tall women need longer length in the body.

Zipper defunct
I love everything about this coat... except the zipper. And unfortunately it made it unwearable. I tried over and over again to get the coat to zip, decided I didn't want to battle with a coat for 10 minutes every time I wanted to wear it, and returned it. Bummer!!

Almost great but gets beaten by “Sweden” Parka
So just a few notes on this so hopefully it will help others out there! I ordered a Medium Petite based on other reviews I read, thank you to everyone who posted! I waited years to buy this parka. I am 5’5”, I wear size 12 pants, size 8 tops (Medium usually), 38/B. I would say I’m hour glass shaped but I have a big … hips! This jacket is tight on my hips but has narrowly enough room where I’m going to keep this jacket. For the price, this is about 100 dollars less than the “Sweden” women’s parka. Ll Beans is slightly more fitted in the waist, but only slightly, and again, tight on my hips where “Sweden” I can move more freely. The sleeves are a suitable length for me on both jackets. The jacket’s pockets are not as well placed as the “Sweden” competitor. You will have your wrists exposed to the cold in the Bean jacket, but not in the “Sweden” parka. The zipper also is less effective than “Sweden”, the Bean zipper often gets stuck on itself. The Bean jacket has a zipper, buttons, and Velcro however it appears to be more for fashion if you’d like to spend time buttoning the jacket, I’m not sure I will. As far as the big ticket question, who’s warmer!? The winner is… “Sweden”! Not only is the jacket softer and cozier, foe fur higher quality (if that matters to you), the overall comfort of the fit goes to “Sweden”. Why am I sticking with four stars if I like the “Sweden” parka so much more? This is still a really nice coat, not everyone can afford “Sweden”. I got lucky and waited for a decent sale making both coats the same price. I’m grateful that I had the means to purchase and compare both and for those on the fence and hopefully my size measurements help anyone who was in my position reading reviews. So try the Bean jacket! It’s still really nice and I’m going to keep mine!
Also I got the orange and it’s a little darker than the photos but it’s still pretty.

Heavy and warm
This parka is heavy and warm. Initially got an XL but exchanged for Large for a little more flattering fit. Have just made it through my third season of this being my hockey spectating coat. It’s great for keeping you warm standing in the cold or in the outdoor New England elements. Because it is so heavy it’s better for standing and casual dog walking, but the bulk isn’t as comfortable for things like shoveling or stacking wood, and sometimes even sitting in the car. The zipper gave me trouble for a long time, I figured out a down pull while initiating to get it to catch seems to work, but that was a solid star reduction. I also have the short version of this coat (the Maine Mountain Jacket, in XL) which I find a bit more stylish and comfortable, with a better functioning zipper, but not as warm (due to the length).

This parka fits more like a coat in length. While definitely warm, it has a few drawbacks: overall bulkiness and heaviness; hand warmer pockets that are too low to be useful unless perhaps one has extraordinarily long arms; and finally, plan on an extra five or ten minutes just to get the zipper in the exact right position to work. I regret not returning this item.

Great Parka, Terrible Zipper!
I waited for a year to write this review, just to make sure I wasn’t selling the jacket short or being prematurely enthusiastic. I’ve worn this parka in negative temperatures, with shocking windchills (I mean “feels like” -40). I’ve worn it in blizzards, I’ve worn it when it was only a bit chilly. It totally blocks wind. It’s comfy with light layers and heavy layers. Good for the school run, shoveling snow, walking dogs, even standing on the sidelines watching rugby. Nothing binds, I can move freely, I love everything about this coat but the zipper. I feel like you guys could’ve spent the extra pennies and added a nice heavy brass double zipper instead of the flimsy, HARD to line up nylon double zipper y’all used instead! Come on! I hated the zipper on this coat so bad, I took it to my tailor and had her put a better one in. Now I have no problems and as far as I’m concerned I’ll keep this coat forever. But it’s a shame y’all couldn’t have given it a proper zipper in the first place…
