Completely lost waterproofing after washing!
When I initially bought this jacket about a year ago, I absolutely loved it! It looked great, fit well, and was completely waterproof in light, medium, and heavy rain. After a successful but very muddy fishing trip, I washed and dried the jacket per the instructions printed on the label.
After washing, I put it away for the winter, and brought it out again this week for a trip to Hawaii. It was there that I discovered it had completely lost all water-repellent qualities after being washed. I got caught in some (admittedly very heavy) rain and it not only offered no rain protection, but actively soaked up water. The outer shell and cotton inner lining of the jacket were waterlogged to the point of dripping, and my t-shirt underneath was soaked. It took over 24 hours for the jacket to air dry in the hotel bathroom with the fan on afterwards. But even before getting caught in that particular squall, the jacket was struggling to keep my dry in light and moderate rain.
Honestly, I got lucky that this happened in tropical Hawaii and not my native Alaska. Getting that wet in colder temperatures would have been an active hypothermia risk!
I've never had a problem with an LL Bean rain jacket before (and I still use a more heavy weight jacket I bought 8 years ago). I am very disappointed because I was looking forward to using this jacket for many years to come. I bought this one specifically because it was PFAS-free, but unfortunately I don't think the company's PFAS-free waterproofing can be relied upon at this time.

Narrow, shoulders, or arms, just too small
Absolutely love this jacket, and the flannel lining is perfect for the Northeast. However, the shoulder issue is a real thing.. I see it listed multiple times here. I even went up a size hoping that would fix it, but all it did was make the bottom bigger and the shoulders are still tight. Pulls on your arms if you even lift your arm up to fix your hair. I so wanted to keep this jacket, but I’m afraid it’ll never stretch and be comfortable due to the arm issue. Tried it on with the thinnest shirt possible and it still does the same thing. Very disappointed as I do like the idea behind this flannel lined rain jacket.

Sleeves comically short
I had to get this jacket in a men's style to get sleeves that fit right.

Great looking with a Flannel Lining
This seemed to be the best rain jacket for New England because it has a hood and it a flannel lining. My wife loves it. It also has a rugged single zipper which she seems to be able to use without a problem. She wears it everywhere. She liked this multi color raincoat over all the other choices at the LL Bean store.
