Expectations more than fulfilled
Over more than 40 years of custom, I have learned to trust L. L. Bean for quality and rugged wear, as well as attractive colors in traditional styles. These field chinos are no exception! With advancing age, I have lost some weight; and these trousers fit me to a "T."

GREAT PANTS
I am normally a Duluth guy. I needed to replace a dark brown pair of pants that they no longer sold. So, I checked out LLB. I like a heavy pant, so I figured the Field Chino would be perfect. The picture of the Dark Ash pants looks brown, so I bought them. They are actually green. You can really see the difference between my pic and the website pic. Now I have three pair of green pants, but different shades. That's okay, because these pants are really nice. They fit perfect and are very comfortable. I wish LLB had them in dark brown. I will be getting another pair regardless, I do not know which color.

Inconsistent Sizes
First pair of these pants I bought was tan, size 36 waist……fit was perfect. Second pair was olive, same size 36…….could barely tie at the waist! This happens often enough at Beans……inconsistent fit based on colors of the product. Same problem with their polo shirts. Bought pants elsewhere and no longer buy shirts at Beans.

Perfect Fit with Somewhat Flexible Waist
I recently lost weight and needed to buy new pants. I bought 2 pair of these chinos, in Dark Ash and Dark Loden. They fit really well because the waist is somewhat flexible. I really love the soft fabric. It is heavier than most chinos, sort of like denim jeans. When I washed them I dried them on ultra low. They turned out perfect with no wrinkles. I just needed to hang them up. They didn't need to be ironed. The metal button used to close the waist is much better than just having a button like on some pants. These pants have 8 beltloops, which is great. Notice that many men's pants these days have manufacturers skimping by only having 5 beltloops, which is far from adequate. A note on the colors. What I received is very close to how the color appeared on my screen, but the names of the colors are a bit misleading. Dark Ash to me implies that it will be grayish. Instead it is a darker brown. Maybe a name like "Forest Ground" or some such would be more accurate. The Dark Loden is pretty close in reality, although in dimmer light it looks somewhat brownish instead of green. I am fine with the colors but just wanted to mention that the colors do shift a bit in different light conditions. Overall, I am very happy with these high quality pants.

Nice Closure
The button is riveted with a barrel shaft for easy use as opposed to a sewn on button, which is difficult to use. Permanent press would be nice.
