Small! But next size up!
I usually never buy clothes without trying them on in person. I took a chance. Your jeans run small!! Your 38 should be 40’s. I normally wear Wrangler brand for comparison.

L.L. Bean has a quality control problem
L.L. Bean is no longer a reliable source of properly fitting jeans for me. For years, I knew that 42x32 jeans from this company were a great fit. About a year ago, I ordered jean in that same size; the waist was slightly bigger than usual and the length was way too long. As a result, I started ordering 42x30. The first order of two pairs was okay; the length was slightly shorter than I would like but tolerable. The second order of two pairs was terrible; one pair was so short I couldn't wear them, and the other pair was too long. There was nearly a 2-inch difference in the length of the two pairs.

Terrible Fit
Something drastic has changed in the manufacturing of these jeans. I brought this same style several years ago that fit me perfectly. This pair was way too big in the legs and rear end and looked ridiculous on me. Returned for a refund.

The inside corners of the back pockets fray the last four pair l bought making me not happy with your product. In the past, I have always been pleased with your jeans but obviously something has changed.
