Rated 4 out of 5 by likestoplayoutside from standby These replaced my previous pair of 5 years, which eventually did get too ripped up to be of much use any longer. I prefer silk underlayer as it protects from scratchy outer layer fabrics and is a great liner for warmth. I wear them daily in the winter for 40-60 min urban dog walks with a creaky, stubborn elderly dog that takes lots of sniffing stops, so I'm not walking steadily and get chilled at certain temps without liners. I've tried the other, thicker brands, but these are the best for warmth and comfort. Also, the best for x-country skiing as they slide against your outer layer as you move and therefore are not binding. And they breathe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by AlohaTutu from Preferred of the two silk options I like these better than the silk pointelle style, in terms of durability and fit. They do come up almost as high, but the waist elastic is less bulky and can be folded over. I prefer the longer length, even though i am petite. As a senior, I go for practicality and warmth over 'style'. I usually wear med pants but selected large in these , as I detest tight waistbands...these are not baggy on my smallish, fairly fit 130 lb frame. I also like the matching tops more than the pointelle style - the fabric seems more durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Bflo17 from Great silks! I bought my first pair 10+ years ago and then a second pair a few years ago. Some were mentioning the kind of strange fit. I know what they are saying, but when all is said and done and you put your regular pants over them the weirdness disappears. At first I was concerned that wearing something like this would cause bulk and you'd be able to tell you had something on under your regular pants, but none of that is true. They are thin and pants slide right over the silk and wow do they keep you warm! I'm on now looking for a silk shirt. I would buy additional silk long johns but I don't need to...they've lasted even after normal (not careful) washing!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Heartsong1229 from Up to my Armpits in Warmth! I wasn't sure whether to rate these as excellent or poor so I chose in the middle. Let me tell you what's right and what isn't. First of all, these are so soft and warm and luscious but thin enough to fit under your clothes. That's all great for someone like me who hates to be cold - especially in my historic house which tends to be a little chilly. What is strange, is that they reach all the way to my armpits - and I'm 5'8" tall. If I had a huge belly they would be perfect, because it would take up the slack. But I don't, so instead, if I want the waist band at my waist, there's lots of extra material. So the fit is pretty strange. I did keep them instead of sending them back, and I would recommend them as long as the person purchasing them knows how they are cut.

Rated 2 out of 5 by MollyG44 from Snags easily, thinner and not as warm as before After wearing these pants only a few times(2 pairs), both pairs developed little holes and snags--definitely not because they were too tight. In fact, on me, they are quite roomy. The quality and warmth have definitely diminished from ones I bought several years ago. Luckily, I still had an older pair that I will be able to wear until I find pants of better quality elsewhere. I wish there was some way to know if the quality improves in the future. Perhaps I just got 2 defective pairs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BeckyO from repeat customer I have bought these for years. The silk fits under everything - tights, jeans, pants. The extra layer adds warmth from September to June. No one even knows I am wearing these, though I brag about them to anyone who mentions being cold. I personally prefer black, as the lighter color aged more quickly. I wash in a washing bag in the laundry, and hang to dry. A pair lasts usually 2 seasons - I will confess they might rip a bit along the crotch seams if they aren't pulled up high enough - hope I don't go to the ER haha.

Rated 1 out of 5 by FernCreek from Just Not Durable I do like the added warmth of this thin layer of silk, but after wearing this for a bit more than one winter, one knee has developed a big rip in it (when it began, it appeared like a run in your stockings) and the seam down the back is now ripping out. Fortunately such holes in my underwear aren't visible, but soon the rips will be too large and it'll be unwearable. For this price I expected better. I'm disappointed that LL Bean would offer such marginal quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JeanneH from Lightweight yet warm These are perfect for me to wear under my Double L Relaxed Fit Jeans. In cold weather they add just enough extra warmth to make all the difference in the world to keeping warm. A note about their care: mine are washed on delicate cycle in my front-loader and hung to air dry. When putting them on, treat them as you would pantyhose/tights. Adjust them above the ankle, then smooth them up your legs. You want any excess fabric above the knees. As you wear them, they will stretch out a bit at the knees and hips - you need this looseness so the fabric is not strained at the gusset seams. Silk is a luxury fiber, treat it as such. One request to Bean: how about a color other than white or black sometime?
