It's okay
I am a size 7, or 37 in Birkenstocks. Bought the 7 wide. My foot in there with no sock, had more than an inch of space at the heel with my foot pushed all to the way in. Went to store and exchanged for a 6 wide. Fits perfectly. However, even without my orthotic in there, the center of the show is a bit narrow and squeezes only the middle of my foot. Toe box is great. Kind of odd. Merrel's were much comfier but alas I have hiked in it and did not have sore feet so I guess it's not too bad.
