Very good for day hiking
I used this pack for many 5-7 mile hikes in South Africa. I (200lb man) found the back cooling feature insufficient. The waist strap too was a bit slight but did offer support. There is a convenient space to slip the waist belt when not in use. The shoulder straps are extra long for adjustability but that adds straps to catch on airline overhead bins and trunks of cars and other luggage. I found myself using the main compartment for a water bottle because the using side pockets tended to throw off my balance. I will opt to use a bladder next time. I may buy the next model up with more substantial waist belt w/ clever zip pockets and I hope better ventilation.
