Rated 5 out of 5 by MaineCathy from Necessary first layer I wear one of these every cold day in Maine. It’s extremely light but adds a surprisingly amount of warmth on cold days. Its transparent so can only be worn as a base. It washes and dries quickly which is good since they’re so costly. I’ve washed them in with my regular wash and they come out fine and do not shrink. I’ve dried mine in the dryer and I’ve hung it to dry (it dried in less than an hour). The cuffs on the sleeves did stretch a bit but it didn’t impact the function or appearance of the garment. I was tempted to rate 4 stars because of the cost but it’s so essential as a layer and holds up so well, 5 stars is fair.

Rated 3 out of 5 by poroto from Women's silk underwear, Scoopneck I agree with the review from "something's changed". The material is not the super durable silk of several years ago, it is much thinner. I still get these undershirts because I haven't been able to find something else, but they definitely don't last as long as the original ones. Also, the neck on these is not really "scoopneck". If you want a real scoopneck you need to get the Women's Silk Pointelle. It would be great if L.L. Bean could bring back the silk undershirts from years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kelkat from Soft, comfy, warm I received a set of these silk underwear (top & pants) about 15 years ago and I'm still wearing them. Yes, they are thin, they are supposed to be! They are warm without being bulky under clothes. Silk runs, so when you see a hole, sew it up right away. Great to wear under clothes on a hike on a cold day. Great to sleep in too when it's chilly. Light but warm, lots of give. Unlike polyester, these don't get those little balls of fabric built up on them either. Wash them with delicates in a laundering bag, hang to dry, and they'll last.

Rated 1 out of 5 by LoneWriter from Not scoop, too short, sheer, not warm The neckline ends just above my clavicles so this is definitely not scoop. It shows under tops and sweaters. The torso is also super short, and shrunk in the wash (cold water, delicate, in a mesh bag and hung to dry). Completely see-through, and not especially warm. I prefer the Bean silk pointelle scoop (a true scoop) but my size is no longer available. I would not repurchase this style nor do I recommend.

Rated 2 out of 5 by AlwaysCold from Too Sheer for Warmth I will preface my review by saying that my sister living in Chicago swears by her silk underwear from LLBean. I found it to be so sheer that I could see through it and although the shoulders fit, it was extremely baggy around the torso so it lost any warmth it could have provided. I wore it inside my house under a shirt, sweater, and fleece jacket in southern California and I was cold.

Rated 2 out of 5 by baxterpal from A sad story The old favorite LLBean silk undershirt is a thing of the past. The one I bought this year is flimsy, and after one washing the hem stitching is coming out. It is not very warm, and it is way too thin. It is also cut a bit skimpy. So sorry, I will have to look elsewhere for this old standby I had bought from you for years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by IllinoisMomof3 from Bring back 3/4 sleeves I would like to buy more (have around 5 bought over the past 10 years) because I wear the old version of these constantly during three seasons of the year. However, I need the 3/4 sleeve like they used to be! The scoop neck and 3/4 sleeve allow me to wear these under almost anything with no show! Please bring back 3/4 sleeves!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by ShiftingSand from Something's changed! This is NOT the soft silk fabric that I have loved in the past. If feels like cheap thin polyester. Please bring back a quality product.
