Rated 1 out of 5 by abcdefghijklmnopqr from Bait and Switch I purchased three of these flannel shirts early last fall. I chose them because they came in a tall size, with a tapered body. The flannel was nice and heavy. They were perfect shirts for a Michigan fall and winter. Then late this winter I decided I should buy three more. I went to the L.L. Bean website and order three more of the identical shirts. When the shirts arrived I could not believe the difference. The material was not flannel. It was some kind of thin, cheap material. The button down collar was gone. The engraved L.L. Bean buttons were gone. I returned them! Don't buy these shirts if you are looking for a good flannel shirt!

Rated 5 out of 5 by MagnumPI from Perfect Before purchasing, I looked at some of the other reviews for this shirt and I saw that the biggest complaint was that the flannel is thinner and lighter than expected. This is completely true- the material is not the same weight as the Scotch Plaid flannel shirts. However, I was happy to learn this. I love flannel, and like George Costanza with velvet, I would drape myself in it if it were socially acceptable. However, not every fall day is the same, so I've often thought it would be nice to have a flannel shirt that was on the light side. This shirt fits that bill exactly, and it still feels durable and well made. I can't wait for the fall so I can start wearing this shirt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Willie from Perfect light weight flannel! As a few reviewers pointed out, this is a light weight shirt. However, it is fantastic for me here in AZ and would be a great fall/spring shirt in cooler climates. I'm tall and slender with big shoulders and often, to get the sleeve length I need, shirts are like circus tents around my torso or are too tight through the shoulders. This is absolutely perfect. Not too long in the body and fits my contours better than any button up shirt I've found. Even though it's a light flannel, it is still very soft and seems to be very well made. Expensive, but worth it. I just came back to get another color and they were out in my size :(

Rated 1 out of 5 by TooTallForLLBean from Short-sheeted pockets Were you ever "short sheeted" in the college dorm or at home by your brother or sister? If so, you will understand my comment. Short sheeting refers to making a bed in such a way that the sheets are folded in half, and you can't possible get into the bed. The pockets on this shirt are similar: They are about 2/3 the length of a regular shirt pocket, so they won't hold a pen or pencil or eyeglasses. If you are looking only for style, that's fine. If you actually need to carry a pencil or your eyeglasses, forget it. My advice is to look at other LL Bean shirts to meet that need.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Silverleaf from Too Much Like Plain Cotton I purchased this shirt because I liked the color choices and wanted another flannel shirt. When I opened the package and felt the material, I was disappointed. It had the feel of poplin cotton, so light that I thought it was the wrong item. When I checked the tag I was surprised. I have purchased other flannel shirts from LL Bean and been extremely happy. They were exactly as I had expected. I was so disappointed that I didn't even try is on, just returned it. When purchasing something that is advertised as the top of the line, I expect top of the line. This shirt was not top of the line in my opinion. LL Bean has much better choices than this one. My advice, don't waste your time or money!

Rated 3 out of 5 by bostonbeanie from Disappointed with Quality and Service I bought this shirt as a Christmas gift for my son. He is a very slim 6'4". Finding shirts that fit him is always a challenge. We were very excited that the medium tall indeed fit him well and he was pleased with style and color. The pleasure turned to disappointed when we discovered a hole in the shoulder seem. Further disappointment came when I learned that I couldn't exchange it due to lack of inventory. Additionally, the clerk at the Easton, Ohio store would not give me any sort of price adjustment if I wanted to keep the torn shirt. I have been a loyal LLBean card-holding customer since 1996 and have always been pleased with their quality and service, until today :(

Rated 4 out of 5 by BigRed43 from Beautiful but thin It's misleading to call this "flannel," since it's barely thicker than a dress shirt. Nor do I understand why it costs more than a traditional flannel shirt. Nonetheless, the patterns are lovely, and since I run too hot for traditional flannel in most circumstances, I like the lightweight fabric. The cut is definitely slimmer than a traditional Bean shirt; especially in Tall, it makes you look taller and thinner. The dual pockets are a nice step up from traditional shirts, except that they're too small and tedious to unbutton. I have two of these shirts in different patterns, and people sometimes recognize them as being from LLBean, but I still consider them distinctive and old-fashioned in a good way.

Rated 3 out of 5 by 2003Phillies from Quality suffering recently I've purchased several of these castine flannel shirts in the past, and I'm honestly disappointed by the more recent versions. I feel the overall quality of material and colors/patterns available are not up to the standard of the LLBean Signature line that I was so excited about when it was first launched. Don't get me wrong, it's still a nice shirt, but at $64 for a Men's Tall, it's gotta do a bit better.
