Day One Comfort
Excellent comfort and quality. From day one and throughout a 10 day trip including walking 5 - 7 miles /day all within 2 week of receiving theses hiking shoes. For someone who has extremely wide feet, high instep and needs arch support.

A secure footing
I'm 75 and hike 2 miles a day on dirt trails near my cabin. This is my second pair of these hiking shoes. They are nice looking but the key is, the wel[-designed tread keeps me securely grounded and there is no slipping and thus injuries are very unlikely. I like that aspect.

Shoes for all seasons
I have had at least four pair of these shoes over the last several years. They are my go-to shoes in summer, in winter, in spring, and in fall. And yes, I live in Minnesota. I will continue to buy them as long as L.L. Bean continues to make them the same way. Because they fit my feet. It's just that simple. OK, I have odd feet and I require an insole that supports my arches. The insole that comes with these shoes will not support my arches, so I buy third-party insoles. I have to do that for all my shoes. My wife asked, possibly exasperated, if I would wear these shoes to a formal gathering, like a wedding or a funeral. I said I might have to paint them black. :-)

Tongue (in cheek) suggestion
Hello,
Comfortable and rugged as promised.
However, I agree with other reviews that the tongue is too short. Sometimes the uppermost lace disappears underneath it.
Suggestion: Either lengthen the tongue or provide an 'eye' through which the lace can pass.

Awesome shoes!
I have purchased 8 pairs of Columbia Lakeview II hiking shoes over the past 5 years and I loved them! They changed the style, so I looked elsewhere and found these L.L.Beans. I've been wearing these for nearly two months and these are WAY better than the Columbia! Seems to be better construction and extremely comfortable! Seem to be wearing well too!

Excellent purchase, would recommend to others
These shoes for my husband were the "foot star" of our trip to Copenhagen, northern Norway, Iceland, Scotland and Germany this summer. Great fit, comfortable right out of the box, liked the wider width for his widening senior citizen foot, warm for the colder locations, excellent purchase.

Sturdy shoes built
Wanted new shoes to replace a similar older pair. This hiking shoe is perfect. Well built and comfortable. It is sturdy with good thread. I have used it continuously for two with no complaints. Color and design are perfect.

Good quality but the width is much narrow than New
These are good quality shoes, but I need an extra wide size and these say 9W(EE) but they are a good half inch narrower than my old New Balance shoes. Disappointed.

A walk in the park (or anywhere else!)
Fantastic fit, comfort, and durability! I have both the weatherproof and ventilated models. Walk at least 20 miles per week for health, errands, and "commute"; these shoes have outperformed.

Service after the sale needs work.
I got these for my husband for Christmas. While they are comfortable, the seam by the big toe gave way in a few months. Sadly, the cashier accused my husband of returning an old item on a recent receipt. It was embarrassing and rude.

Good So Far
The shoes fit as expected and seem to be well made. I've worn them about 10 miles walking so far, so we'll see how they're doing six months from now.

Good with a little help
Good rugged soles, good ventilated construction. The only issue was there was not enough arch support for my feet. That was easily fixed with the addition of some Dr. Scholls inserts. Now they are perfect.

Fantastic Right Away
Shoes are generally difficult for me to buy. I have wide feet and I need great support. I also use inserts. These are extremely comfortable with excellent support! To top it off they are deep enough for my inserts while still keeping my foot very stable. 2 hikes in and I’m very happy!
