Performance of sled
Worked well for us. My four grandchildren (7 and under) came for Thanksgiving. We only had a couple of inches of snow on top of leaves and grass. I went down the hill a number of times with one child or another. Seemed to slide really well in snow conditions that were iffy. Not sure why other ppl thought they didn’t slide well. Fit me (5’8” & 185 lbs) and 1 child well.

And it IS an investment. But in contrast to what I could get at a big box store — cheaper and cheaply made — these are big, sturdy, and very well made. I expect they will be much used by two active grandsons for many years. And after sharing a toboggan for the last few years, they are DELIGHTED to each have their own.

Bought this sled for a Christmas gift. When I opened the box the sled was all scratched up and dirty on the bottom, like someone used it on a dirt road. Also the foam insert wasn’t even fully sealed to the sled. I had to press it down to seal it all around. I expected better from this company and for the price I paid. Because of the scratches the sled does not slide smoothly down the hill. I would have returned it, but it was too close to Christmas and during this time of year, returns would be a nightmare. Don’t recommend.

Is it poor quality control?
We just received this today and have mixed feelings. We bought the LL Bean brand in hopes of finding a more durable sled, avoiding more plastic waste, and avoiding stores. This saucer does seem somewhat thicker and less brittle than more commonly available store brands. However, the liner is not nearly as nice as expected. It feels like a thin, cheap yoga mat that was incompletely applied with stinky spray adhesive. The spray adhesive was incomplete and the mat is peeling up at the edges. This is true of all three sleds we purchased, so not a fluke. How will this hold up in cold? Will it come off completely and get adhesive gunk all over my kid's snow pants and coats? Who knows!

This sled really reminds me of the plastic garbage can lids. It has a flat smooth bottom, so you might easily spin on the way down the hill. It's definitely big enough for all the adults that we had around. Also, going tandem was doable. The handle grips are helpful but the window is a bit small if you're going to have puffy gloves or mittens on. Works decently on non-compact fresh powdery snow. Works a bit better on slightly compacted snow.

Slick sliding
We've tried many different sleds over the years and this year we purchased a couple sonic saucers and an LL Bean snow tube. Depending on the hill and conditions they are both great. The LL Bean snow tube is the biggest hit - consistently slides the best, is the most comfortable for everyone from a small child to a grandparent, and feels the safest if you have a hill without trees and an open run-out. It's everyone's favorite. The sonic saucer works best on well-packed surfaces and you have a little more control if you have to bail out or need some directional foot dragging. Depending on your hill, you can't go wrong with either one.
