Darkened leather
Purchased Boot Guard to treat and waterproof new LL Bean Stonington Dark Oakwood boots. Hoping the product is effective at waterproofing (have not had wet weather yet) but wanted to advise that it darkened the leather pretty significantly.

LL Bean Boot Guard For all Leather Footwear
Bean Boot guard helps preserve, soften, protect, and seal in moisture of the leather and seal out water and other harmful liquids leather doesn't mix with. Great on my boat shoes, loafers, oxfords and just about every leather shoe I have. I buy a couple of jars at a time and apply twice a year, each spring and fall. From the tops of my Bean hunting boots to my classic 2-eye boat shoes and casual Weejuns. Best leather formula that exceeds where mink oil paste ends. Helps you keep your leather footwear last years longer vs buying a new pair every other year or so.

As an L.L. Bean employee, I meet a lot of customers who are looking for great products. Many folks ask about a great way to preserve the life of their Bean Boots or other leather boots and shoes. I am always pleased to point out the convenient tub of Boot Guard to one and all. Recently I purchased a new pair of boots and decided I needed to take my own advice.
I followed the directions on the container: rubbed in the product onto the leather of my boots, let it soak in and then buffed with a soft clean cloth followed by a swift brushing with my father's old boot brushes. The product smells nice, like lanolin, and actually felt nice on my winter-weary hands too. The shoes look better than new and clean up nicely after a walk through the winter landscape. Highly recommended

Good water-proof product
This product does pretty much what it's supposed to do: protects leather from water damage. I found it easiest to apply directly with my fingers; when I tried to use a sponge or cloth, too much product stayed on the applicator. My only caveat is that I have had to apply it quite frequently to maintain the best protection.

Rejuvenated boots
I had neglected my leather boots for several years. Buying this product was a last ditch effort before tossing the boots and replacing them with others. This no frills, no nonsense boot wax saved the leather. Now I promise to apply this wax at least annually. It was worth the price.

The good stuff
I'd been looking for a product to replace Snow Seal, which LL used to carry—it's a good substitute. I use it on leather anything that I use or wear, inside or out. It will darken the material but definitely keeps the wet out between applications.

Keeps my boots in great condition.
I use this product on the hunting boots I purchased 4 years ago after completing a thru-hike of the AT. I knew I would be back to bird hunting and my foot size had changed so I visited L.L. Bean while I was in Maine and purchased new hunting boots. At the same time, I bought Boot Guard so I could take care of my new boots. This stuff works great and it is made in the USA!

Not for all leather
Sorry to say that I did not have a good experience with this product as it ruined the beautiful colour of my Stonington leather boots (probably okay for dark leathers). No warning on the LL Bean website stating that this product can change the colour of some leathers. Money wasted in my case.

Easy to apply
