Was good for a while
Seam tape coming off after having the jacket for a few years but probably not worn more than a dozen times. Sure would have liked to wear it out before it fell apart.

Emerger II Wading Rain Jacket
Comfortable, waterproof and fits well for my fishing excursions. Pockets are very well built and hold what I need. I like the waterproof mobile pocket on the jacket to get pictures easily.

Gear - not fashion
I own the version of this jacket from about 15 years ago. I use it all the time. Still in great shape. Zippers still work (which is amazing to me) and don't leak. The seams that hold the pieces of the jacket have never leaked.
Velcro still works. Zero tears. I'm very hard on this kind of equipment and its held up. I'd buy it again for sure. Its gear to me.

Works as a Proper Raincoat and Looks Great, Too!
full disclosure, im using this primarily as a raincoat. i don’t fish. that said, i bought it because i thought it looked very cool, seemed incredibly functional, and again, i think it looks cool. i especially like the chest pockets, which would be even more useful if i was actually wading in waist deep water, and the hood/brim combo. id recommend it as a raincoat, even with its slightly shorter trim. most raincoats run super warm, to the point that even those i’m dry from rain, i’d find myself soaked from my own sweat. i haven’t had that issue with this so jacket so far

Great jacket and a good price!
Great jacket, well made, and a great price! Received this for my birthday and I tried it out when spring fishing on the Connecticut River on the Canadian board in early May. Jacket fit as expected (size was spot on). Very comfortable and when layered with a fleece, was quite warm and wind proof. I am happy I made this purchase.

No side pockets and no ventilation
Waterproof with typical LL Bean quality BUT no side pockets (only 2 limited size chest pockets) and no ventilation which makes it get very warm

Missing side pockets
Comfortable fit and very rain resistant BUT who sells jackets without side pockets? Jacket would benefit from some ventilation areas as it can get very hot

Extremely comfortable and lightweight.
I've had my jacket over 10 yrs. and I can't say enough good things about it. The May fishing opener in Northern Wisconsin can be cold, gale force winds, and just plain brutal. Running a boat across open water in these conditions calls for a jacket that is windproof, waterproof, and lightweight. I wear a llbean turtleneck, hooded athletic sweatshirt, and fleece vest under the jacket and I'm plenty warm without feeling bulky. Even with my life jacket on.

Returned garment.
I had this jacket for several years and it served me well fishing in Alaska and Oregon. The zipper gave out and I returned it to LL Bean. They replaced it at no charge.

Underwhelmed
I miss the normal two pockets above the waist line where I would normally keep gloves.
The interior feels cheap.

Nice Product
Really Nice jacket. Definitely waterproof. My only issue is the inside of the jacket is lined with PVC waterproofing material. This jacket is definitely NOT breathable. If you’re going to be using this for a long time in cold weather I don’t think it would be very comfortable.

Good fit
Not easy to please but this jacket fit well and functional enough for lake wade fishing. Would not recommend for stream fishing as there doesn’t seem to have enough pockets etc if you’re going without a vest.
Until I did some surgery the main zipper was difficult to maneuver. Once I scissored some of the grey liner off everything worked fine.
If you like carrying the kitchen sink with you to the stream side, you’ll need a vest. Everything else should be OK.

Affordable w/Shortcomings
I'm 64 years old and this is only the second wading jacket that I've purchased in twenty-five years. The fact is, I hate fishing in the rain. But every once in a while, it's nice to know that I have a water-proof jacket out with me, just in case.
As such, I wasn't going to shell-out $400+ for a wading jacket, so Bean's Emerger II jacket seemed to offer a reasonable alternative.
The PROS: 1. It's relatively inexpensive, at least when compared to most of the other wading jackets on the market, 2. Reasonably well thought-out, and 3. It's nylon, as opposed to polyester, a sub-standard material that has pretty much become the norm nowadays.
The CONS: 1. It's unlined (even the hood), so it's pretty clammy, 2. The hand-warmer pockets are located behind the chest pockets, so they're utterly useless. I could barely bend my arms enough to get my hands in them, and 3. The two pocket flaps each have a Velcro pad for a fly patch, but the jacket only comes with one patch. I suppose the thinking is that you can swap pockets to accommodate either right-hand or left-hand use. LL Beans don't offer the fly patches as an accessory item so you could have a patch on each pocket, which would be nice.
In summary, the Emerger II is an affordable wading jacket that will get the job done. Were it lined and offered better positioned hand-warmer pockets, it would be a much better jacket, but it's a good buy for $129.

Fix Velcro loop strip
Need a single Velcro loop strip on the sleeves. Users with wrist sizes between the large and the small loop strips cannot fully fasten the Velcro hook strip, and it catches on everything from fishing line to cloth.

D-ring failure
Bought my first emerger II last year, wore it about 4 times. Almost lost my net because the D ring stitching came apart. Returned it, I hand picked another one that appeared to have the best stitching at the D ring, wore this one once and the stitching on the D ring looks like it is beginning to fail. My net is actually pretty light but during a rainstorm it does get heavier when the netting gets soaked with water and fly casting must put extra strain on the ring. The jacket is packable, cut to wear outside of vest and kept me fairly dry but they need to do more work to secure the D ring better.

Not breathable
I purchased this jacket a few years ago. I have used it many times in the rain for a short amount of time. It worked well, fit nice it was great. This past week I had it on for about 6 hours in the rain on a drift boat trip. I thought I had a leak, I was wet and cold. It did not leak, it is not made with breathable material. For the price I paid and it being a 'LL Bean product I just figured it was. I would not recommend this product for this reason. My shirt was wet from my body sweat.

Perfect
I have had this jacket for over 10 years and through all the abuse I have put it through in those 10+ seasons on Michigan rivers, it have held it's own and then some. I would definitely get another one if this one ever wears out but I don't think I will need to since it is holding up so well after so many years.

Willing to give it a try
Received my LLBean Emerger II wading jacket today, and I almost packaged it up and immediately sent it back. ALMOST.....this jacket was ordered as a replacement for my 15 year-old +
LLBean wading jacket.
The new jacket lacks a mesh lining that separates my bare skin from the rubberized feeling jacket interior. My old LLBean wading jacket was more comfortable.
I don't like the way this feels on bare skin.
So why didn't I send it back ? Because I searched the web for a better jacket, and frankly I couldn't find one.
I'm keeping it for now and I hope that I can adapt to the clammy, plastic on skin experience.

Superb Wading Jacket at a great price!
Buy this jacket! I fly fish weekly, and this jacket is awesome! The water tight cuffs keep you sleeves dry. I can wear it under my chest waders comfortably or over them. Warm hand pockets, gear clips and water proof. This is a great price, too.

Nice Jacket
Nice wading jacket. Stops the wind. Looks like a plastic liner but it breathes. Able to move freely in it. Should hold up well. Bean products are great.

Alaska Weather Tested
I purchased this jacket in 2012. Since then it has kept me dry on multiple outdoor trips in all kinds of weather. This jacket has held up for over 6 years of hard use and abuse, including 17" of rain in 76 hours in Katmai, 60 mph winds and sleet in Kodiak, 5 day treks in constant rain, and multiple fishing trips. I have so much faith in it, it is now my everyday rain jacket. This year alone it went with me on 3 multi-day fishing/outdoor trips where it kept me dry through 10+ hours/day of wind and rain. Only the DWR coating is not what it used to be, and the exterior now wets out quickly, which compromises the breathability somewhat. The cuffs are starting to show wear, and tend to come undone, but everything else is solid.
Things I love: the fit, the durability, the pocket design, the zipper storm flap, & arm cuffs.
Things that I think could be improved: the hood is very adjustable and it works, but something is a little awkward about it. I also would prefer a separate high collar.

Emerger II rain failure
I purchased the Emerger II wading jacket for a recent Labrador fishing trip. Just spent the last six days in heavy rains and cold weather in northern Labrador fishing camp. Wore LLB polar fleece jacket under Emerger jacket every day. Rain penetrated the Emerger jacket every single day...and not just a little...even fleece jacket underneath was damp. Took numerous pics of wet rubber coating inside Emerger (happy to share with LLB staff)...actually looked like I feel in the lake. And it wasn't sweat...there was no sweating going on in the cold weather sitting in a canoe all day. Poor performance from this product. Will be returning jacket and finding something more rain worthy. Jacket features are nice...but rainproof worthiness is extremely poor.

Good jacket
Great fit and features. Only cons would be better breathability (which isn't bad but I live in a colder climate) and better velcro on cuffs. Good wading jacket for the money!

So far so good
I wore the jacket twice. I chose to oversize so I could wear extra clothing underneath for colder weather as this is not insulated but use able anytime of the year. I think it will suit me just fine.

VERY DISAPPOINTED! NOT WATERPROOF!
I had my cell phone in one of the chest pockets. I reached down into the water to retrieve something, and the chest pocket dipped into the water. Phone ruined because the pocket is not waterproof! I love LL Bean, please make jacket better. Thank you.

Very basic design
I have a similar wading jacket from another source.I bought this as a gift. Surprised that the lining is like a plastic trash bag..should be breathable net to allow for drying and use on warmer or colder days. Needs a back flap pocket for carrying accessories and an inside zip pocket to carry items that shouldn't get wet.

"Spot On"
The modest folks at LL Bean can't put it like I can but I'm just back from a week in Montana fishing in October. Temps ranged from a blizzard snow in 30's to 60+, wore this jacket and was comfortable the whole time. I actually switched my gear over from my FF vest to this jacket. The Emerger II has a hood with an integral tether that are all adjustable to fit properly. This is not a gimmick feature when you are fishing in beating down sun or a blizzard, much thought went into this jacket. The only critical comment I have is that there should be pockets on the inside of the coat, even if only mesh because we know they will get wet. Based on the amount of engineering and performance of this jacket, I would wager that no pockets came from 100 years of not needing them, and I have some adjusting to do. This is and outstanding wading jacket...LLH

Nice Jacket
This is a nice jacket but I would have preferred it to be a little roomier for the size and have hand pockets on the sides.
