Inspired by an original - ours. Our Field Coat was first introduced in 1924 as the Maine Duck Hunting Coat. It was an immediate favorite - loved for its rugged look and quality craftsmanship. Plus, it coordinated perfectly with our Maine Duck Hunting Boots (now known as "Bean Boots"). The legacy continues with this stylish lighter version. We love timeless fall classics, but a timeless and seasonless classic is even better.

Love this lightweight field jacket
What a great jacket. It looks particularly good with at least two layers under it. I sent back the L and ordered a M which fits great. It can be washed but I plan to put that off as long as possible.

Cute Style Field Jacket
While the style is cute, it wasn't for me since it was too cropped and not very warm. Good for early Fall. I can't see this as a Winter jacket unless there are warm layers underneath.

Happy With This Jacket
I ordered both regular and large to compare sizes. Regular fits better, but I can only wear lightweight layers under it. Large is easier to wear over layers but looks almost baggy on me. I kept the regular (saddle color). Have received compliments. Deleted one star because jacket is unlined and looks a bit unfinished for the price. Also the L.L. Bean price tag on jacket reads $129, but I paid $140. Price tag on returned jacket (large, faded sage) reads $129, too.

This is a good lightweight jacket but be aware it is meant to be worn over other layers, if you wear it by itself it will look boxy and oversized. If you want to wear it by itself definitely size down, I wear a size 14 and bought a petite large, I definitely could have fit into a medium if I wanted to wear it without layers underneath.

Super cute, but it is lightweight!
Super cute jacket! It is called a lightweight jacket, but I was expecting just a little bit more weight to the fabric of it. I live in LA though, so it'll be perfect for layering with turtlenecks when it does finally cool down here.

Well constructed, more stylish "Field jacket"
The neutral shade of faded sage I found unique and attractive. The inner construction of this unlined jacket has nicely finished seams. It is very comfortable and looks a bit more stylish than what I'd consider a "field jacket" with its cute large pockets and topstitching. I won't be wearing this one for yard chores😊

Really cute but a glorified jean jacket
The style is great, and I knew there was no lining when I bought it, but I was not expecting just unlined canvas. It could almost be a shirt. It's too light for fall in Michigan.

Great fall jacket
Just received the Field Jacket in Black. I just love it. Great style and fit. the corduroy collar and cuffs are a nice feature. I went with a Medium my regular size. At first I wasn't sure about the Black but I am glad I went with it. Its perfect with my jeans.

Love that this jacket is unlined so I can use it as a light layer or add a sweater underneath for more warmth. Thrilled with the cropped length, which is perfect with all my wide-leg pants. I always go for petite sizing in jackets if it is offered and my usual size in petite fit perfectly.

Love Love Love
I happened upon this jacket at a first time visit to an LL bean store. I fell in love with the pistachio color and thought it was a great idea to have a shorter version of a field jacket. I read the reviews about it being boxy but to me that doesn't
make sense because it is still a version of a field coat so it will look slightly boxy. The size is forgiving so you can minimize the boxiness by sizing down which is what I did. I normally wear a medium and I purchased a small and it still has room for a sweater which is fabulous. I like the idea that it is not lined because then you are able to wear it in the Spring, late summer and Fall. This jacket can go anywhere from day tripping to hiking to sitting by the campfire.

As other reviewers noted, very thin. "Lightweight" seems a bit generous. Bought my usual XS (5'3, 120lb) and returned for size up so I can put a sweater underneath. Bought faded black, love the wash with the dark corduroy collar. Hoping to collar relaxes a bit as it's a bit starchy/tall standing now.

Lovely color
I purchased the faded sage jacket and it is lovely. The pockets are well-placed; the jacket is neat, on the dressy side of casual. It fits more closely to the body than the regular barn coat, and the lack of a lining means it is more difficult to put it on over, say, a sweatshirt. It is lightweight, best suited for spring or early fall, over a long-sleeved shirt or turtle neck, or a vest. I'd buy it again.

Beautiful but thin
I love the look, length, color, and style of this coat. And the corduroy detail is so fun. But it is EXTREMELY thin, really more of a light shirt. For the price, I really wish it were lined and am considering returning it for something a little heavier. In Maine weather, I think there’s only two weeks a year when I would be able to wear this. Would be a great jacket if you lived somewhere warmer!
