Really well made boots!
I bought these boots in November specifically to walk my dog in rainy California weather. She has to walk rain or shine, which means waterproof boots are critical. So far they have been worn in stormy weather in 40s-50s deg temperatures, and they definitely keep my feet warm and dry.
It is evident that this is a pair of rugged, well-made, quality boots. I am really impressed by how meticulous the workmanship is and so happy to support American-made products at an affordable price point!
My reason for four stars instead of five is that the leather is stiff and really made my feet hurt when I wore them in the beginning. Furthermore, the first thing that struck me is how difficult it was to pull them up over my socks/feet! The leather is "unlined", for lack of a better description, and thereby creates friction with the sock. Has anyone else experienced that as well? Is there a secret to making the boots pull up a little more smoothly? After using the boots for about 2 months on a non-daily but regular enough basis, the leather is starting to season/ soften up so now it is getting slightly easier to put them on. But the first month or so was really tough. Similar to a fellow reviewer the tongues on the boots also cut my shin (again this is really tough leather which I believe will season nicely over time ). Proper thick socks are crucial as well especially since these boots run really large on me. I am between a size 6.5 and 7 in footwear and most of my other boots are a size 7. I ordered the bean boots in size 6 and they are big. However I did find a pair of thick cushioned socks in my drawer that works well for me so now the boots are very comfortable sizing-wise.
Overall I think this is a really well made pair of quality boots, but they do run large (in my humble opinion), and if you just can't deal with the stiffness, perhaps one of the shearling lined options might be a better fit.

The lowdown on this boot...
What this boot is:
A flexible, thin, waterproof, three-season utility boot, suitable for camping, fishing, hunting, rainy days, hiking in wet and mud.
What this boot isn't:
An insulated fluffy "snow" boot for wearing with your leggings at the lodge. If you want that look, go for a fashion or lined boot. This boot is 100% utility and function.
This boot is a serious boot for the die-hard outdoorswoman. This boot is not meant to be pretty, although it's function is art in its own right. This boot is unlined, and highly flexible unlike other duck-boots. Its thin and cool enough for summer in the outdoors, in fall with a good pair of wool socks, and perfect for spring rainstorms. If you are looking for an all-winter boot, look at the lined ones. This boot works most winter days if I have a good thick pair of woolies on under them, but that's just around town. I would not snowshoe or do any outdoor activities in them.
Properly cared for, these boots will be your fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, and anything in the rain boot for years and years to come.
Sizing Note: These particular boots do not run as large as other duck boots from L.L. Bean. They are more like a half size larger instead of a full size. They also run slightly narrower than the other boots as well.

A Godsend for My Feet
I run a farm and also teach agriculture, so I am on my feet all day, over rough terrain, no matter the weather. I have tried hiking brand boots, but the rigidity and weight killed my feet. I read the reviews for the LL Bean Women's Hunting Shoe and decided to try a pair. When I put these boots on, I nearly wept at the comfort. Its like wearing bedroom slippers to work...durable, waterproof bedroom slippers. The traction is great and the fit is awesome (I am an 8.5 and I ordered a 7 as recommended). In the foothills of North Carolina, it never stays below freezing for long, and there is enough space in the boot to wear a medium or heavy weight wool sock based on the weather. I think I could even wear them in the summer with a light sock and they wouldn't sweat my feet. I am so glad I ordered these and would recommend them a thousand times over. I am now a Bean Boot convert.

Not What I Expected!
I'm trying to love these as I've waited a long time to order them. However, so far the tongue presses into my leg and bothers me, it's really, really stiff. Maybe with time it won't do that? I cannot lace them up as tight as I'd like as then the tongue bothers me even more. I was expecting them to be more cushioned, but they aren't, I added an insole. Now the really, really annoying part is that my socks keep slipping down slowly. I'm thinking it's because of the way the tongue presses against my leg? Not sure, but I have to continually stop and pull my socks back up. I'm wearing Thorlo socks, so not cheap thin ones. Does anyone else experience this and if so, how to fix it? I wear 9-10, so I ordered 9 and they fit perfect. I use them to work around my horse when it's muddy. Wanting these to work, so will keep them a while longer to try them out.

Couldn't be happier!
I've been wanting a pair of bean boots for a couple years now, but the style I wanted was always back ordered until Spring. This year I got smart and ordered in September. I absolutely love these boots! Super comfy, well made, lightweight and not bulky. I'm glad I did not get them lined, because they are perfect for cool weather and can wear thick socks for colder weather. I always wear a size 8, but after reading sizing suggestions ordered a 7. They fit perfect! LOVE!

Heaven!
Just received my boots. I'm now 9 1/2 and wasn't sure what would fit. But the size 9, for me, will be perfect. I plan to use heavy wool socks, no matter the season. Room to sweat in summer rain. Room to stay warm in winter snow. Plus in between. (I also have 8 on order, but judging from the fit now, it would be a mistake to have a size smaller.)
It's supposed to rain tonight and/or tomorrow, so I'll try them out on a nearby cross country practice biking trail, where it's bumpy and will be wet. (Right across from the park we look out onto). But I feel sure I made the right decision. I'll use the LLBean Boot Guard first. Just to be extra kind to the leather.
I already have good hiking boots, but these are perfect for those early rainy day shorter hikes. I love to walk in the rain! And I love not to get wet feet.
Every foot is different. So buy what fits yours. But these boots are no mistake! Thick leather. Beautiful dark brown. Comfortable inside. Well made. What's not to like?
These even feel great like inside slippers!
Thank you beloved LLBean! You've been my friend these 50 years.

Wonderful Investment
These boots are amazing.I was originally drawn to them because of the color (I've never been a huge fan of the traditional duck boots), but I'm so glad I got these. The fit is perfect with thick winter socks, and my feet are incredibly warm. My shoe size ranges from 9 to 9.5, so I went with the 10. Definitely go a size up if you plan on these being snow boats.

horse riding/hiking-fits the bill
I was extremely pleased with the women's Maine hunting boots. I wanted comfortable, rugged, waterproof boots. I was seeking boots that could alternate between hiking and horseback riding on wooded trails. Also I needed boots that were easy to clean. I followed the specific sizing recommendations of the company and my boots fit perfectly I also am satisfied with how they look. If I ride my horse far into the woods and have to walk back, I know that my feet will not hurt, I will have good traction on hills, and wading through water will not soak my socks.

Only Boots I Need
I bought these boots to wear while hiking and in the rain and snow. Best shoes I have ever worn. Completely waterproof and very warm, with thin and thick socks. I wear a size 6-7 depending on the brand, but I ordered the 7 as per recommendation from the site, and it was perfect all around. I've gotten so much use out of them that the leather on the inside of the ankles is discolored, but the overall quality regardless is great. I can wear them laced all the way up or just untied and they are comfortable and effective either way. The treads on the bottom are also great on snow and ice. The material is super flexible, so it makes these boots great for hiking, snowshoeing, walking, and obviously what they were made for, quietly moving through the woods hunting. These will probably be the only boots I'll ever need for rain, snow, and hiking. Major thumbs up, LL Bean!

Amazing Quality!
I absolutely love these boots.
I ordered them back in 2013 and was immediately impressed with them. The materials used and the way in which they are constructed make them super durable and comfortable. Throw them on with a pair of wool socks and you're in business.
As nice as they were straight out of the box, they have gotten better with time. The leather on mine has softened and now has a "loved" look to it that gives it some real character. They look so cool and rustic and are fashionable in their own way.
In the 2 years I've owned them I have worn these boots through mud and countless puddles, hiked up a snowy Alaskan mountain in them, and worn them for a month straight while I was traveling around Europe. I was even proposed to while wearing these boots. Throughout all of my adventures with them they have kept my feet warm, dry, and comfortable.
Though they are amazing when used outdoors, they work just as well indoors. They have nice, grippy soles and are comfortable enough to walk around in all day. I know it's a small thing but I really appreciate how quiet they are. They don't clunk around or squeak on any surface I have found. They are completely silent, even on the linoleum tiles we have in my office.
These boots are expensive but, in my opinion, are worth every penny. Don't be discouraged by backordered sizes either, these things are worth the wait. I have been so impressed with them and I know we will have a long and happy life together.
Thanks LL Bean! Making quality items seems to be a dying art. I appreciate your high standards and excellent products.

Big quality big size
I love my new boots. They are very well made and have the look of real deal outdoor winter/rain boots (not cheesy knock offs). I like this height of the 10" as well as I am fairly tall (5'10"). My only complaint is that they run big. I am an 8-8.5 usually and I ordered an 8 (and I am average to slightly narrow in width) but they are pretty big and wide, but i waited so long to get them I decided to give them a go. I figured they ran on the large side for room for large wool socks (esp for maine girls) or whatever, but there is still a lot of room. They feel stable enough for outdoor work and walking around but I wouldn't feel safe breaking into a run or jog (if need be) in them as they are still pretty loose. You may want to order a size down if you need a secure fit and don't need to wear really big socks.

Women's Maine Hunting Shoes, 10"
These boots are fantastic...comfortable and great looking. Best part, although when I purchased online in November, I was warned that I probably wouldn't receive my purchase until the following March. I was thrilled that my purchase actually arrived before Christmas...just in time for the stormy No. California weather. Thank you L.L. Bean!!!

Great Boots!
It took a while to get them to me because of the backorder status, but the wait was worth it. I love the sole as they don’t tend to bring in the grass/hay/etc from the yard, and they are easily cleaned at the door.
I have a high arch, wide foot and large calf, so finding a boot that fits well is a challenge. I added an arch support, and wear a tall wool blend sock to make them extra comfy.
My last pair of boots from LLBean were 6” pull ons, I did the same with them. So easy to wear that I’ve nearly worn them out.
I special ordered the quick lace eyelets for these new boots, so they can be taken on and off very easily.
I LOVE these boots! They are nice enough looking to wear many places in our part of the world.

great boot
I've been wearing these for a few weeks now, thinking I would have to break them in, and they have been incredibly comfortable from the get go. i was surprised at how supportive they feel - i also have a pair of sorel's and these are much more supportive. They are also sleeker and less clunky than my sorel's. all of the reviews stating to buy down a size from your normal size are 100% true. i learned this the hardway, seeing size 11 being available and not on backorder, but when they arrived they were massive. i returned and placed an order for the backordered 10s. the estimated ship date was 3/23/16, but they actually arrived at the beginning of november!

Cant wait until it gets chilllyyyy
I tried for two winters to buy a pair of these boots and they were always sold out. I decided to change my strategy and buy them in the summer :)
The fit is a little larger than I anticipated (even with the sizing guidelines) but I did not try them on with thick winter socks. I cant wait to actually wear them.

This boot meets my high standards for fit, performance, and comfort. Comfortable, Practical, & Beautiful Boots
I've been on the hunt for a cute practical boot that could withstand the Northwest rainy season, and I finally found it with LL Bean. Even on day one, they were incredibly comfortable and required very little break-in time. They transition beautifully from backwoods adventures to grabbing a coffee downtown. Overall, these are lovely boots that were made to last, and I couldn't be happier with them.

Love These Boots
These boots were worth the 1-month wait! I have only worn them around the yard, but am very pleased with the fit. I was hesitant to order a size down as recommended and ordered my usual size 8. I am very glad I did because they fit perfectly. Any smaller and my foot would not have made the turn into the boot because of the tongue being sewn to the sides of the boot. They are not clunky but I still have ample room to wear heavier socks if I need extra warmth/cushioning. My only request would be for longer laces. I can barely lace them to the top.

Perfect!
Wore these for the first time while working an outdoor festival which required me to be on my feet for about 18 hours straight, and by the end of the night, my feet were the ONLY part of my body that didn't hurt! I don't know what I would have done without them! Cannot wait to take them camping, hiking, kayaking, sailing, and walking to work every day! Perfect boots!

No break in time!
I had been researching different boots for a while and I kept coming back to these. I took everyone's advice and ordered a size down (normally wear a 10 ordered a 9) and it fits perfect. Right out of the box you can tell these are a great quality boots. I haven't had an opportunity to wear them in any freezing weather yet just the rain...and they kept the water out and the warmth in. First day wearing them I had them on for 12+ hours and my feet had no fatigue! Great boot...highly recommended!!

Comfortable and what I was looking for
Love these boots. They do run large. I typcally wear an 8 1/2 or 9 and got an 8 in these boots. They are still very roomy with wool socks on. My only con, at this point, is the first day I wore them the brown foot part became dull and almost like it had a coating over it. Doesn't really matter as I use them for yard and farm work; however, I was hoping it would clean to look nice again.

Even though I don't hunt....
Although I was one of the masses to order these boots and wait while they were on back order, I kept faith, and the boots arrived two weeks before their estimated delivery date. Yay! I get to test them out while it's still snowy, but also plan to wear them to conquer the mud season in Vermont.
The boots fit true to description - they're designed to accommodate a large sock inside for warmth, but they're not too big to wear without the large sock. I normally wear a 10 in most brands, and the 10 fits well. I was a bit worried about getting into and out of the boot, as I have high arches which often lead to issues in this type of design, but the helper tab on the back does its job. I can pull on it without worry that it'll tear off (like it has in other brands), and that if I have an issue LL Bean will fix it.
The mini-Bean boot keychain that was delivered as thank you for being a patient back order customer is ridiculously cute as well.

I Adore These
I love these boots. They are the perfect height (10") which sets them a part from other boots here. Furthermore, the soft rubber bottoms are extremely quiet. I don't wear these hunting, but walk around the city with them and they are very quiet indoors, but very durable. I was worried the concrete may wear them down, but as long as you don't drag your feet, these are excellent. They are wonderfully waterproof and plyable, and don't get salt stains like other winter boots. They do take a few weeks to break in the leather, and I suggest applying a wax protectant such as Snow Seal or whatever one LL Bean sells here on their site. It keeps the leather conditioned and helps protect it against the weather. Also great in the snow. Had a snow day and wore them playing and sledding in 2 feet of snow. Even better, they are very warm, depending on what kind of sock you wear. I wear some heavy duty work socks (such as Dickies) on days when it's 5-30 degrees Fahrenheit and either switch them out for a thinner sock when its warmer or a wool sock when it's colder. As for fit, I did follow their suggestion and ordered a size smaller than my normal size, and they fit very nicely with some wiggle room at the toe. It is a bit wide though, so I really have to cinch them up, but I may just have a narrow foot. My ONLY qualm is that I've only had them for four months and they have worn to where a whole had developed between the leather top and the rubber bottom. However, LL Bean will be taking care of that for me when these are no longer back ordered because they have FABULOUS customer service. I hope my next pair will last forever (at least in 'boot' years) and I definitely recommend these to any and everyone who wants a quality boot.

My Go-to, All-Purpose Boots-- Incredibly Durable!!
I've had these boots for almost three years, and they have held up fantastically. I am slightly pigeon-toed and have high arches; needless to say I am hard on shoes. Usually heels will be completely worn down after a year, but not on these boots! I will have to get them resoled eventually, but I think I'll be able to get five years worth out of them first, which is unheard of for me. I can wear them all day without getting sore arches. When paired with thick socks like Smartwools my feet stay plenty warm. I haven't worn my snow boots since getting these! I often pass on my rainboots as well. The laces tie tightly enough to accommodate my slim legs and keep out any snow or rain. These boots are worth every penny.

OBSESSED
I'm an 8 in uggs or Moccs but a 9 in sneakers, sandals, and riding boots (thin socks). I have very flat feet too. I decided to get a size 9 so I can wear wool socks. With regular thin socks they are a little big (1inch gap) which is great cause I hate tight shoes. They look way prettier in person than online! They also look better with jeans than leggings. They aren't too heavy either unlike Hunter boots.
