The original L.L.Bean Boot, made in Maine since 1912.

  • Approx. weight:: 3 lb. per pair.
  • With light or midweight socks: Whole sizes, order one size down. Half sizes, order 1½ size down. Example: 9 or 9½, order a size 8. With heavyweight socks: Whole sizes, order your normal size. Half sizes, order one size down. Example: 9 or 9½, order a size 9.

The original Maine Hunting Shoe was Leon Leonwood Bean's first product, introduced in 1912. Over the years, we've made lots of improvements to these boots, but hunters have told us that they miss the moccasin-like feel that our original boots had in the woods. So we set out to bring it back.

  • Steel shank for superior lateral and arch support.
  • Premium waterproof leather upper.
  • Moccasin-like, flexible sole grips better and lasts longer than ever.
  • Handstitched and checked for quality.
  • Laces not waterproof.
  • Not designed to stay submerged in water.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from OBSESSED I'm an 8 in uggs or Moccs but a 9 in sneakers, sandals, and riding boots (thin socks). I have very flat feet too. I decided to get a size 9 so I can wear wool socks. With regular thin socks they are a little big (1inch gap) which is great cause I hate tight shoes. They look way prettier in person than online! They also look better with jeans than leggings. They aren't too heavy either unlike Hunter boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I absolutely love these boots. I live in SW MO where we have fairly wet winters and I spend a lot of time outdoors. I have wanted a sturdy, functional boot for years but never quite got what I wanted from other boots. I believe I've finally found it in this boot. They instantly became my absolute favorites; my go-to boots. I love that they're just loose enough I can pair them with thick wool socks for added warmth, but they're thin enough my feet don't sweat in warmer weather with thinner socks (we have wet springs, too). These boots are exactly what I have wanted in a boot for years. I can't imagine doing without them ever again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sublimely Happy! I am in love with these boots! In the winter I travel between the Northeast and the Midwest, so I wanted a pair of boots that could withstand all the elements as well as some wear and tear, and I have to say, these boots do not disappoint! I wear them as both rain boots and snow boots and am very happy with them. The stiff leather uppers do take a little breaking in, but the boots were still very comfy on the first wear with good support. I am a 7.5 normally with what I consider slightly wider feet, and I ordered a 6 and can still wear them comfortably with thick wool socks and ample room in the toe box. I wear them with both jeans and leggings comfortably (though I have to wear them with skinny jeans as a lot of denim stuffed into the uppers tends to be a little uncomfortable) and I think they're very stylish in a classic sort of way- overall, nothing but happiness here!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible blisters I ordered these boots in preparation for the messy New England Weather that we always get in the fall and winter. I wore them for the first time this week, and they tore my feet to pieces. I've never had so many blisters from a shoe of any kind as badly as this, on the backs of my heels and even on the outside of each foot. Fortunately LL Bean says they'll take them back. I was really hoping and expecting these would work, so I'm pretty disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic product, impressive customer service I could not be happier with my new bean boots. The quality is unparalleled and I'm happy to support a U.S.-made product. Best customer service and shopping experience I've had in a while. I normally wear a size 8-8.5 shoe and the size 7 boots fit me perfectly. Thank you for a great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boots, but watch out for wet rocks! I usually wear an 8 but ordered a 7 and they fit great with my heavy socks! I have only had them for a week so I cannot attest to their durability but I don't worry about defects with LL Bean's warranty. They are extremely comfortable and perfect for hunting in the Northwest. I will note that you should be wary of wet rocks and tile in these, they are REALLY slippery in those circumstances! So happy to find a reasonably priced hunting boot made in the USA!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boots ever First time buying from LLBean. Very fast, efficient. I read the customer reviews on fit. Very helpful. I normally wear a 8.5 or 9. I ordered the 8. It fits perfect still room to wear a thick sock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE these boots LL Bean's sizing information is in fact 100% correct. I usually wear an 8/8.5 narrow so I ordered a 7 normal width (narrow width wasn't an ordering option on these unfortunately). I was apprehensive (I've NEVER fit into a size shoe), but these fit just PERFECTLY with thicker, winter-typical socks, and I honestly don't think they feel too big with regular socks either! I'm moving up to NYC and can't wait to see how these work out in the midst of snow and slush!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful boots I live and work in DC so I needed boots that are comfy and practical for my walk to and from the metro and walking my dogs on wooded paths in Rock Creek park, these are exactly that. They're lbs lighter then my old Sorel's, which could be because my old boots are 10+ years old, but still awesome. I followed others recommendations and sized down from my normal size 10 to a 9, they fit nicely with both a thick wool sock and a thinner one as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Boot! Living in Memphis we have winters that are cool (40s and 50s) but rather wet, so good boots are a must. I dithered a lot on sizing, especially since my size was back ordered for 6 weeks (despite me ordering them in the beginning of May). I'm an 8 1/2, and I ordered an 8. With light socks, they fit great if I add in an insole. The fit is wonderful with heavy socks, or two pairs of merino socks, without the additional insole. I haven't tried them for warmth yet, since it's now 90 degrees, but I did stand in a tub of water to my ankles and the boots kept my feet completely dry! Looking forward to whatever winter brings this year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect All Around-Fits for High-Arch people I first ordered the maine hunting boots with gortex, but the thinsulate did not fit my feet at all. When these finally came, they fit perfectly!! With regular socks they are a little roomy, but still very comfortable, and if I lace them tightly it is fine. With thick socks (Wigwam wool socks), they are the most comfortable boots ever. I ordered size 8 and I am size 8. Also, I have extremely high arches, yet with these unlaced partially, I can get them on with ease even with thicker socks. With the thinsulate ones, I could not even get my foot into the thinsulate layer due to my arch. I have tried a size 7 (my mom's, but they are also more narrow), and it is a bit of a struggle to get them on with thin socks on and fully unlaced, because of my arches. I have my Mom's old maine hunting boots, which are very comfortable, but the padding is pretty worn down. I was surprised at how squishy the padding in these boots are, they are like walking on a cloud! Also, do to this nice padding, it took zero time to break the shoes in. I have not gone on any longer hikes with them yet, but I have worn them around all day at school and was comfortable the entire time (which is important because I run Cross Country). I love the dark brown color as it goes with so many different outfits!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth waiting for. Took over 2 months to get them but the snow is still here. Light weight and comfortable. I normally wear a 9 but got the 8 as was recommended and they are perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly What I Hoped For I ordered these boots back in early January and, due to backordering, they didn't get to me until the last week of February. Though that process was a headache, I couldn't be happier with the boots themselves. Having been through a rough winter in the Northeast, I was looking for a pair of boots that would offer good traction in slippery conditions, warmth in 0-32 degree weather, dryness in slush or rain, and comfort. These boots have risen to the occasion in each and every way. They were not even difficult to break in, loosening up within the first 3 wears. I love the height and can wear them in deep snow or through nasty New York City slush puddles with no issue. These boots - like all of the Bean boots lately - are backordered like crazy. If you choose to purchase them, expect a long wait time. I highly recommend communicating with their customer service representatives over the phone and NOT through the site's online chat resource, which I found did not meet L.L. Bean's usually excellent customer service standards. In terms of sizing, I wear a size 7.5 in most shoe types, although I sometimes wear a 7 or an 8. I went with the size 7's in these boots, and am very happy with the fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fantastic boot I just got these boots and they're really great. I ordered one full size down and they fit perfectly. The soles are extremely comfortable, it's like walking around in sneakers! They're just a really classic, really well made boot. Highly Recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my new boots They felt great straight out of the box. I keep them loose and that seems to feel better than lacing them like I would normally lace a boot. Thank you to the other reviewers who recommended that I order a size down. I normally wear a size 9 and I ordered an 8 and they fit perfectly (as long as I wear think socks). They're a bit loose if I wear regular socks. They've work great for me in the 30 - 50 degree wet weather we've had here in Texas since I received them, but I can't speak to how warm they would keep you at much below that. My feet do sweat a bit (something to be expected, I suppose, since the boots don't breathe, being rubber) and I could see how that would make for a cold clammy foot in colder weather. I think I would definitely order the lined version in that case. I still might order the sole liner I've heard other reviewers talk about, that way I could wear a thinner sock and have some more insulation on the bottom of my foot. Also, I like that they don't make my feet look big. Winter boots tend to make my feet look rather large. All in all, I'm very pleased that I sprang for them. Bonus is that they are actually made in the US by a company that I believe in and feel good supporting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No break in time I have a red: yes, RED pair of 8" boots. I work in home health and this has been the worst winter in many years. I have had great troubles with wet, cold feet. I shopped every place around my area with no satisfactory boots so....I ordered my Bean boots and have had them for 2 weeks. Usually I can't wear any shoe everday but these have been comfortable from the git go. When the weather turned particularly cold I wore bamboo low socks underneath my boot socks and nooooo problems! What a great product! I have already recommended to several other therapy co workers. Scott made my boots: thank you Scott!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boot ever! Have been looking for a waterproof boot and have had my eye on several Bean boots. After much deliberation I decided on this pair and I have not regretted my decision. I live in a warm, humid climate with few frigid days and decided these would fit the bill. They are so darned comfortable. I received them on a Tuesday and departed for NYC the very next day, boots packed! I wore them all over the city....brand spanking new, absolutely no break in time and was very pleased and most importantly, very comfortable. I highly recommend! I did as instructed and ordered a size down......perfect fit! I will be ordering a pair of the fleece insoles for a little additional warmth......I have a very high instep and it is difficult to wear thick socks with ANY type boot. Thank you LL Bean! You have yet another devoted customer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functionally Classic, Aesthetically Beautiful This is a beautiful boot! Sturdy, and will require some breaking-in, but well made, with a nice profile. I wear thick SmartWool socks and the boots fit fine, almost like a clog. Can't wait for winter weather here!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from better for me than 100th anniversary boots These boots are great! I will say though, I originally bought the taller 100th anniversary boots because I wanted the tallest boot I could get. Those boots were very difficult to get on my foot. I don't know if I have wider calves then intended, as other reviewers have noticed, or whether the leather just needed to soften up. I sent them back and ordered these instead, and they went on my foot much easier, I was able to lace them all the way up! I wear them with thick socks, and I ordered a smaller size than I usually wear. The fit is good, but they do run large as other reviewers have noted! I wore them on a 3.5 mi. trek uphill in snow and slush. My feet stayed warm and dry the whole time. Overall, excellent boot which I expect to have for years to come!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than I hoped for! I hung up my camp apron to join the hunt this year. I was looking for a boot that is: 1. comfortable 2. light with flexible sole 3. waterproof 4. taller than ankle high It's hard to find a good boot for women. This boot met all my expectations and more! No break in period needed. My feet stay comfortable and dry, wearing wool hiking socks, in 80 degree dry to 40 degree wet conditions . 2-10 miles per day. Provide ample traction on wet, mixed vegitation and moderate terrain. Love the 10" boot- can't tell when/if my pantlegs get wet and peace of mind re: rattlesnakes. I can feel the ground as I stalk without feet getting sore/bruised. Only minor fitting issue: a little too roomy around the ankle. I'm not hiking aggressively or on steep/rocky terrain. No performance issues- just looks odd/bulky around the ankle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only boots I need! I had my eye on the Bean boots for a while; however, I wanted something with more height and a different color that could get dirty. The Maine Hunting Shoe is the answer! I wanted these boots to wear in Northern California: mud, rain & dirt would be the extent of their use. I wear a size 8 and purchased a size 7; perfect fit. I wore them with thin/medium socks and feel my foot moving around a bit; thicker socks would be better. After about 6 hours of wear, my feet felt fine and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Can't wait to break them in!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super comfy, warm, and durable I ordered these after going through a few too many rainy days at college that ended in soaked jeans and clammy feet. Since they arrived, I've already been through a severe thunderstorm with them and I love them. My feet were cozy and dry the whole time I wore them, even after I ran home during a tornado warning. The only thing I don't like about them is that I have to unlace them partway to comfortably get my feet out, but that's only a minor issue. They're still very comfortable, and though I haven't gotten the chance to wear them out in the woods yet, I'm sure they'll be great in that setting as well. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone I know who is in need of some durable, water-resistant shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boots Love these boots. The leather is definitely soft, but for the first couple of days, the boots creased right at my ankle and rubbed a bit. They quickly softened up though, and are now perfect and super comfortable. I normally wear a size 8.5 shoe and ordered the 7. I like to wear fairly thick wool socks in the winter, and the size 7 feels great- plenty of room for my feet whether I'm wearing thin or thicker socks. Very warm and comfortable in rain, slush, and snowy weather. I wear them all the time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent in all respects. This is my second pair of Maine Hunting Shoes. I had my first pair for 35+ years. I could have had them re-soled, but I wanted the dark brown color instead of the old tan ones. When the water is pure and sweet, you go back to the same well!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new Bean boots I retired my 40 yaer old bean boots and bought new ones. They fit exceptionally well and are super comfortable with little break-in. The leather tops appear to be superior to the old with a pebble grain, water repellent appearance. The gusset is contoured and dosen't want to wrinkle! I can hardly wait to get outdoors with them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful boots! I bought these boots a few weeks ago and love them. They are actually my "second generation" of Maine Hunting Shoe--I bought the "shoe style" shorter ones years ago and wore them out, they never leaked, always kept my feet dry. These boots are no different, I have already worn them in rain, mud, etc., and they are comfortable, warm and dry! Food for thought on size--I am a women's size 9 and after reading the recommendations of LL Bean and the folks' reviews, for myself I decided to get my true size, and don't regret it one bit. Yes they are a bit "big" but I am in my mid-50s, my feet sometimes swell a little, and I have twice injured my left ankle/foot, twisted it, causing it to be a bit "thicker" than usual--if you have a tendency for swelling feet, or have injured your foot, I highly recommend getting your true size. I wear them with thick or two pairs of socks, and they are perfect. If I had bought them in size 8, likely they would've been "too tight" at times for my injured left foot. Keep the condition of your ankles and feet in mind when you choose a size!
